FX's Shadows Premiere Scored the Highest Live+3 Lift Among All Primetime Cable Comedy Series Premieres Since 2017, and Represents the Highest Live+3 Lift of Any FX Networks Series Premiere
LOS ANGELES, April 2, 2019 - FX's new verité vampire comedy series What We Do in the Shadows premiered as one of the top-rated new cable comedy series in over two years, with the highest three-day lift of any primetime cable comedy series premiere in that period and the highest three-day lift of any series premiere in FX's history.
The premiere episode of What We Do in the Shadows (Wednesday, March 27 at 10 p.m.-10:38 p.m.) scared up 1.4 million Total Viewers and 656,000 Adults 18-49 on a Live+3 basis, placing it #6 in both demographics among the 44 primetime cable comedy premieres since 2017. The series ranks in the Top 5 among all key men demos (#4 in Men 18-49 and Men 25-54, and #5 in Men 18-34).
In all, the What We Do in the Shadows premiere generated 2.0 million Total Viewers for its premiere telecast, two encores, and VOD+streaming through Sunday, March 31st.
What We Do in the Shadows delivered the highest three-day lift of any primetime cable comedy series premiere since 2017, lifting +141% in Adults 18-49 and +122% in Total Viewers. This also represented the highest lift of any series premiere - comedy, drama or limited series - in the history of FX Networks.
What We Do in the Shadows returns Wednesday night (April 3, 10 p.m. ET/PT) on FX with Episode 2: City Council - The vampires get embroiled in local Staten Island politics as their first step to world domination. Written by Paul Simms; Directed by Jemaine Clement.
Based on the feature film of the same name from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, What We Do in the Shadows is a documentary-style look into the daily (or rather, nightly) lives of four vampires who've "lived" together for hundreds of years. In Staten Island.
The self-appointed leader of the group is "Nandor The Relentless" (Kayvan Novak), a great warrior and conqueror from the Ottoman Empire, who has taken the helm of the group despite many of his Old World tactics resulting in what some might politely refer to as bupkis. Then there's the British vampire "Laszlo" (Matt Berry) - a bit of a rogue and a dandy and a fop, he might say. He's a lover of mischief and a great soirée, but not as much as he loves seeing Nandor fail miserably in every attempt. And then there's "Nadja" (Natasia Demetriou): the seductress, the temptress, the vampiric Bonnie to Laszlo's Clyde. Her wisdom and provocative tales from times past allow us insight into the many ups and downs of living an immortal life.
Also cohabiting in the vampire household is "Guillermo" (Harvey Guillén), Nandor's familiar (a.k.a. servant/protector during the daylight hours), who wants nothing more than to be made a real vampire just like his master. Also lurking about is "Colin Robinson" (Mark Proksch), an energy vampire and day-walker of sorts -- he feasts on humans, but not on their blood. A frequent visitor is Nadja's new friend, "Jenna" (Beanie Feldstein), a student at a nearby community college. She loves LARPing, boys, and art history, and for some reason has been rather confused lately as to why it is she so ravenously craves the flesh of the living.
After an unexpected visit from their dark lord and leader, "Baron Afanas," the vampires are reminded of what they were initially tasked with upon their arrival in Staten Island over a hundred years ago - total and complete domination of the New World. But what exactly is the best way to go about achieving said domination? Our vérité camera crew follows along as the vampires set out to answer this query.
Clement created the 10-episode series. Clement, Waititi and Paul Simms are Executive Producers with Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush. What We Do in the Shadows is produced by FX Productions and stars Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén and Mark Proksch.

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David's routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which David must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real.
A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy's concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she's built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists - Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) - open David's eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.
Hawley serves as Executive Producer, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and John Cameron. Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the executive producers of the Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R)-winning FX limited series Fargo.
Legion is produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television, with FXP handling the physical production.
