Poltergeist: The Legacy was a show that tried to capture the style and success of The X-Files, but move it more fully into the horror genre. Nominated for science-fiction's top honors, the Gemini and Saturn Awards, this riveting series is an addictive cult classic full of occult thrills! 4 seasons, 88 episodes. Between 1982 and 1988, a trilogy of Poltergeist films - including the original classic film by Steven Spielberg! - were shown at theaters. During the 90s, MGM decided to spin off the film franchise into a TV series. The resulting TV show, Poltergeist: The Legacy, had no actual connection to the theatrical movies other than the name. But the program was a success, running for 4 seasons (3 on Showtime, and the final one on the Sci Fi Channel). It starred Derek de Lint (China Beach, Deep Impact), Helen Shaver (The Education of Max Bickford, The Craft), Martin Cummins (Riverdale, Kyle XY) and Robbi Chong (daughter of Tommy Chong). In early 2006, MGM Home Video released DVDs for the first season of Poltergeist: The Legacy into stores. It sold okay, but not as well as the studio was hoping for. So in 2010, MGM released the second season of the show on DVD, but made it only available online as a manufacture on demand item (sold through websites such as Amazon.com, via their CreateSpace MOD program). The studio stopped there, unfortunately, and the show's third and fourth seasons have never been released on DVD in North America, leaving fans in the lurch. But now a different studio is going to change that! Yesterday afternoon the folks at Visual Entertainment, Inc. (VEI) announced a pair of in-the-works DVD titles for television shows. One of them, 1981's Nero Wolfe, has been reported on separately today (you can find that news here on our site!). The other item is Poltergeist: The Legacy - The Complete Series...with all 4 seasons, and all 88 episodes! Yes, VEI has licensed this from MGM, and are bringing you the entire series at once. They haven't given a specific release date yet, and are just saying "coming soon" for the moment. They also haven't given pricing, extras (if any), or other details...stay tuned for those.
