SCIENCE CHANNEL CELEBRATES “MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU” WITH ENCORE PRESENTATIONS OF STAR WARS THEMED MYTHBUSTERS
EPISODES
MYTHBUSTERS: Star Wars – Revenge of the Myth – MAY 4 at 7pm
The MythBusters take
on three iconic Star Wars scenes to see if there's any science fact
behind this legendary piece of science fiction. First, Jamie and Adam --
with the help of actress Sophia Bush -- test
if Luke really could swing himself and Leia across a chasm with only a
belt-tied grappling hook, while being shot at by stormtroopers.
Meanwhile, Kari, Grant and Tory head to Endor to test if a little bit of
Ewok technology, a log swing weapon, really could
take out an armored Imperial "Chicken Walker". Later, Jamie and Adam
head to the ice planet Hoth to test if Luke really could have lasted in
the belly of a tauntaun. But building a giant fuzz-and-foam tauntaun
with fully operational guts proves to be anything
but easy.
MYTHBUSTERS: Star Wars – The Myths Strike Back – MAY 4 at 8pm
Not very long ago,
in a workshop not so far, far away, rebel scientists striking from a
hidden base in San Francisco won their first victory. But....'The Myths
Strike Back'! Adam and Jamie are again taking
on the forces of evil and testing two tall tales from dark side. First
up, Adam and Jamie look into Laser Blasters. A recurring theme in the
movies is the ability of the heroes to dodge, evade and dive out of the
way of an incoming Stormtrooper blaster shot.
But is that possible? After working out how fast the blaster bolts move
they re-create a blaster bolt battle, put their bodies on the line and
commence the dive to survive. Then, in Higher Ground, they tackle the
iconic scene from Episode III when Anakin is
defeated in an epic light-sabre duel. Obi-Wan declares that the fight
is over because he 'has the high ground'. To test the veracity of this
age-old military adage our junior Jedis construct a clever conductive
suit of clothes, a pair of less than lethal lightsabers
and go head to head in a duel to the - not quite - death.
