Buffy the Vampire Slayer - New DVDs Coming for 'The Complete Series: 20th Anniversary Edition'Entertainment Weekly has the scoop on this item's release date and packaging | ||

In 2005, Fox Home Entertainment released Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Chosen Collection: The Complete Series on DVD. It was a tall box, with red and white colors dominant on the outside. This flipped open at the top and then the front face would come down, revealing the 40 discs inside. It sold well, but was taken out of print after a while, however. Then, in 2010, Fox re-released the item as simply "Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Series," this time repackaged in a wide box, which was dark red with black lettering. It was only 39 DVDs this time. Eventually it, too, went out of print.
Now Entertainment Weekly is reporting today that at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con 2017 (July 20-23), Fox will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Buffy with various events, including the official announcement of a new DVD release for Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Series: 20th Anniversary Edition. The write-up at EW mentions DVD only (Blu-ray isn't mentioned; sorry!), and mentions it's a 39-disc set once again. They say to look forward to a special pack-in item: "Also included will be an issue of the official Buffy comic book with an exclusive cover, available only for a limited time." Street date is September 19th, and below is the package art (click the above link to EW's story for a "beauty shot" image with the contents of the package). Our thanks to readers "Steven" and "Michael " for emailing us about the EW story. We expect Fox to distribute more information about this title, including pricing, around the time of the San Diego Comic Con event. Stay tuned! |
