Driven by strong numbers for “Bachelor in Paradise” and record-setting college football kick-off ratings, ABC was the most watched network overall during the week (w/o 8/28/17 = 4.6 million)  and dominated its nearest competition by 44% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/6 vs. 0.9/4 for NBC)The Net delivered 4 of the Top 10  shows, including the No. 1 TV program with the season premiere of “Saturday Night Football”: “Saturday Night Football” – No. 1, “Bachelor in Paradise” – No. 7, while “Bachelor in Paradise-TUE” and “Sunday Night Kickoff” tied at No. 10.
  • Spiking week to week in viewers (+48%) and young adults (+86%), ABC scored 11-week highs – since w/o 6/12/17.

Returning to its regular lineup after the prior week, with the Presidential Address airing in the middle of prime at 9:00 p.m., ABC won Monday night in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5).  ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” stood as Monday’s No. 1 TV program for the 3rd straight week in Adults 18-49.
“Bachelor in Paradise” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 5.4 million and 1.6/6 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” beat out NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” in the 2-hour time slot by 7% in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6 vs. 1.5/6) and nearly doubled the NBC unscripted series in Adults 18-34 (+88% – 1.5/8 vs. 0.8/4).
  • “Bachelor in Paradise” surged over the prior week by 1.1 million viewers (5.4 million vs. 4.3 million) and spiked 23% in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6 vs. 1.3/5) hitting season highs.

“To Tell the Truth” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 3.3 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):
In the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “To Tell the Truth” nearly tied NBC’s “Midnight, Texas” for No. 1 in the hour among Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.9/4) and won the time slot with Adults 18-34.
  • ABC’s “To Tell the Truth” grew 14% from its most recent telecast in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 on 7/31/17) to deliver the show’s top rating since January – since 1/29/17, topping its most recent 5 telecasts.

With “Bachelor in Paradise” and “Somewhere Between,” ABC once again earned the No. 2 network position on Tuesday night in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4) to an “America’s Got Talent”-led NBC. ABC spiked 25% week to week in Adults 18-49, delivering its top-rated Tuesday this summer.
  • Trailing only NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” on the evening, ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” ranked as Tuesday’s No. 2 TV show in Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).  In fact, “Bachelor in Paradise” came within 1-tenth of a rating point of catching “America’s Got Talent” as the night’s No. 1 show with Women 18-34.

From 8:00-10:01 p.m. opposite NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” rose week to week in Total Viewers (+16% – 4.4 million vs. 3.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (+18% – 1.3/5 vs. 1.1/4) to score Tuesday season highs for the show.
“Somewhere Between” (10:01-11:00 p.m. – 1.7 million and 0.4/1 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Somewhere Between” held even with its week-ago Adults 18-49 rating (0.4/1), tying a Tuesday best.  
  • Wednesday
“20/20–City Underwater: Catastrophe in Houston” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 3.6 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
Building on its lead-in Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. in viewers and the key News demo (+44%/+22%), a “Special Edition of 20/20 – City Underwater: Catastrophe in Houston” was ABC’s No. 1 show of the night and won the hour in Total Viewers (3.6 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.1/4).
  • Saturday
The 12th season premiere of “Saturday Night Football” (Florida State vs. Alabama) made ABC the dominant No. 1 network on the night in Total Viewers (12.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.0/18). The Net attracted its largest Saturday night audience in 19 months and posted its highest-rated performance in nearly 5 years among young adults – since 2/6/16 and 11/24/12, respectively.
  • Airing from 8:07-11:42 p.m., ABC’s “Saturday Night Football” easily qualified as the evening’s No. 1 TV showwith Total Viewers (12.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.9/18).

  • Growing over last year’s start (7.9 million and 2.5/11 on 9/3/16) by 56% in Total Viewers and 56% with Adults 18-49, Saturday’s broadcast was ABC’s most watched and highest-rated college football game on the night since October 2014 – since 10/18/14.
  • With a total live audience measurement (TV + streaming) of 12.6 million viewers, the 12th season opener of “Saturday Night Football” was the most watched kickoff-weekend game ever across all networks, surpassing last season’s record Notre Dame-Texas game on ABC (11.1 million).

  • Sunday
With college football coverage (West Virginia vs. Virginia Tech), ABC scored a 12-week Sunday high(since 6/11/17) and ranked No. 1 on the night in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5), towering over runner-up CBS with “Big Brother” by 50% (0.8/4) and dominating FOX with its college football coverage by 71% (0.7/3).

At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Somewhere Between” held even with its week-ago Adults 18-49 rating (0.4/2), which was a Tuesday best. In addition, the ABC freshman drama delivered its most watched telecast on the night(1.8 million).

  • “Boy Band” received over 151 million votes on the iPowow platform.

  • The band’s debut single, “Eyes Closed,” released by Hollywood Records after the finale, reached No. 11 on the iTunes overall chart and No. 8 on the Pop chart overnight.

Featuring its 3-hour broadcast of the “2017 CMA Fest,” ABC ran a strong 2nd on Wednesday night among Total Viewers (5.7 million) and nearly tied NBC for No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 1.3/5).  In addition, ABC won the night in Adults 18-34 and across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54). Moving up to take the lead at 9:00 p.m. after CBS’ “Big Brother” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” concluded, the show ranked No. 1 in each half-hour from 9:00-11:00 p.m. with Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.271 million Total Viewers, 455,000 Adults 25-54 and 339,000 Adults 18-49 during the week of August 7, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.103 million, 398,000 and 284,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+168,000), Adults 25-54 (+57,000) and Adults 18-49 (+55,000), scoring its largest Total Viewer advantage in 2 months – since w/o 6/5/17.  

“Nightline” improved on the previous week (1.110 million, 418,000 and 290,000, respectively, for w/o 7/31/17) in Total Viewers (+15%), Adults 25-54 (+9%) and Adults 18-49 (+17%), drawing its largest overall audience in 7 weeks, while hitting 4-week highs in both key adult demos – since weeks of 6/19/17 and 7/10/17, respectively.

“Nightline” saw increases on the same week last year (1.072 million, 427,000 and 321,000, respectively, for w/o 8/8/16) in Total Viewers (+19%), Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%).
             
“Nightline” narrowed its week-to-week margin with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Total Viewers (-40% – 75,000 vs. 126,000).

During the week of August 7, 2017, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” shot up over the prior week by 20% in Total Viewers (2.087 million vs. 1.733 million), drawing its largest audience in 8 weeks– since the week of 6/12/17. In fact, excluding this year’s NBA Finals-led weeks, “Kimmel” attracted its biggest weekly audience so far this summer.

On Wednesday (8/9/17), “Kimmel” posted its most watched telecast on any night in late-night since June – since Monday, 6/12/17 following Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals. “Jimmy Kimmel Live” welcomed guests Jim Parsons, Damson Idris and musical group The War on Drugs on Wednesday.

The View” improved over the previous week in Total Viewers (+1% – 2.663 million vs. 2.644 million), drawing its largest overall audience in nearly 4 months – since w/o 4/3/17.    
         
The View” also saw gains year to year in Total Viewers (+1% – 2.663 million vs. 2.648 million for w/o 8/1/16).
        
Season to date, “The View” is posting gains compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.815 million vs. 2.758 million), marking its most watched season in 3 years – since the 2013-14 season. “The View” also stands as the only broadcast daytime show to grow its overall audience from last season.

Winning all 6 half-hours of the night with “The Bachelorette” 3-hour season finale, ABC dominated Monday over runner-up NBC by 44% in Total Viewers (7.5 million vs. 5.2 million) and by 62% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/8 vs. 1.3/5), leading the evening for the 3rd week in a row.  “The Bachelorette” finished as Monday’s No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, leading the night for the 4th week runningamong young adults.
  • ABC scored its highest-rated Monday with entertainment programming in nearly 5 monthsamong Adults 18-49 – since 3/13/17.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.644 million Total Viewers, 441,000 Women 25-54 and 318,000
Women 18-49 during the week of July 24, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.389 million, 385,000 and 274,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+255,000), Women 25-54 (+56,000) and Women 18-49 (+44,000), leading the CBS program by its overall viewer advantage in 8 weeks – since 5/29/17.
    
“The View” saw week-to-week increases (2.590 million, 403,000 and 295,000, respectively, for w/o 7/17/17) in Total Viewers (+2%), Women 25-54 (+9%) and Women 18-49 (+8%), scoring its strongest numbers in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 6 weeks – since w/o 6/12/17.
                 
Season to date, “The View” is posting gains compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.816 million vs. 2.760 million), marking its most watched season in 3 years – since the 2013-14 season. “The View” also stands as the only broadcast daytime show to grow its overall audience from last season.

In addition, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” in Total Viewers (+182,000 – 2.816 million vs. 2.634 million), Women 25-54 (+55,000 – 521,000 vs. 466,000) and Women 18-49 (+53,000 – 375,000 vs. 322,000), delivering its largest Women 25-54 advantage in 4 years – since the 2012-13 season.
