Manhunt: UNABOMBER, Episode 5 – “Abri”
Premieres Tuesday, August 22 at 10 PM ET/PT on Discovery
After reading the Unabomber’s Manifesto, David Kaczynski sends a sample of his brother Ted’s writing to the FBI for a comparative analysis.  Fitz believes that Ted is the Unabomber and takes extreme steps to gather the proof he needs to convince his bosses at the UTF that he has their man.

Long Synopsis
In 1996, David Kaczynski wrestles with a dilemma.  His wife Linda has read the Unabomber’s published Manifesto, and she strongly believes the ideas and writing match those of David’s brother, Ted.  David finally agrees to submit a sample of Ted’s writing to the FBI for analysis, but only under the condition of strict anonymity.  David is relieved to receive a call stating that the letter he submitted is not a match and Ted is cleared as a suspect.

Meanwhile, Fitz is living at home in Pennsylvania and working at the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI.  But instead of feeling happy to be with Ellie and his sons, Fitz remains obsessed with the UNABOM case.  Fitz has Tabby secretly fax him the voluminous writing samples the UTF receives in the wake of the Manifesto’s publication.  Tabby discovers the letter that David sent in; though it has been ruled out by the UTF forensics lab, Tabby violates orders and sends it to Fitz.  Fitz instantly senses the common authorship and breaks protocol by going to confront David Kaczynski.  After much convincing, David agrees that Ted is the Unabomber and gives Fitz all of Ted’s letters and writings he has saved over the years.

Fitz leaves his wife and returns to Natalie with all of the Ted-authored documents.  After a night of linguistic analysis, they conclude definitively that Ted is the Unabomber.  In the wake of this triumph, they share a kiss; but Fitz, still absorbed by the case, pulls away.  Fitz charges into the UTF to present his findings and manages to convince Ackerman, Cole, and Genelli that Ted Kaczynski is indeed the Unabomber.  However, Ackerman realizes that Tabby violated orders when she sent Ted’s letter to Fitz, and fires her.  Fitz continues his analysis of Ted’s writings alone, having alienated all of the people in his life who care for him.
