'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' DELIVERS ITS #2 MOST-WATCHED SEASON PREMIERE IN SEVEN YEARS

With Host Ryan Gosling and Musical Guest Jay-Z, the 43rd Season Debut of ‘SNL’ Ranks as the Show’s #2 Opener in Total Viewers Since 2010

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Oct. 1, 2017 – The 43rd season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” has generated the show’s second most-watched season opener in seven years, trailing over that span only last year’s election-fueled results, according to “fast official” “live plus same day” results from Nielsen Media Research.

With a telecast hosted by Ryan Gosling and featuring musical guest Jay-Z, last night’s “Saturday Night Live” averaged 7.020 million viewers overall and a 1.91 rating in adults 18-49.

The Sept. 30 edition, which aired live coast to coast (11:30 p.m. ET, 8:30 p.m. PT) and counted unduplicated viewers from 11:30 encores in western markets, generated the show’s second biggest overall audience for a season debut since Sept. 25, 2010, when the telecast hosted by Amy Poehler and featuring musical guest Katy Perry, averaged a slightly higher 7.022 million viewers.

Over that seven-year span, the only bigger result for an “SNL” season debut came with last year’s opener, hosted by Margot Robbie and featuring musical guest The Weeknd, as well as the first appearance of Alec Baldwin as then-Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump (8.297 million viewers overall, 2.34 rating in adults 18-49). Last year’s premiere was at that time the show’s most-watched in eight years and highest-rated in 18-49 in three years.

Note that “Saturday Night Live” will add significant viewership via time-shifting and VOD. Last season’s 21 originals grew by +60% in adult 18-49 rating and +3.406 million persons or +44% in total viewers nationally going from “live plus same day” Nielsens to “live plus seven day” figures..

That season’s average 11.071 million viewers in L+7 made 2016-17 the show’s most-watched season in 23 years, “SNL’s” best since 1993-94 (11.320 million). The 3.51 average in L+7 adult 18-49 rating nationally made it the show’s best season in that demo in seven years (since the 2009-10 season, a 3.51).

· Ranks #2 in the two-hour timeslot among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and most other key categories and ties for #1 in men 18-34.

· Will add substantial viewership via time-shifting - the prior week's "Dateline" grew by +38% in 18-49 (0.80 to 1.10) and more than +1.2 million viewers overall (4.0 million to 5.3 million) going from L+SD to L+3 Nielsens, for the biggest L+3 lifts of the night on the Big 4 in 18-49 rating and percentage, as well as total viewers.

· Upscale: Friday's "Dateline" is delivering a solid upscale audience, indexing at a 114 among adults 18-49 in $100K+ homes

An encore telecast of "Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders" averaged a 0.5/2 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Friday Night:

‘TONIGHT SHOW’ TAKES THE LATE-NIGHT RATINGS WEEK OF SEPT. 18-22 IN 18-49

At 12:35 a.m., Seth Meyers Wins the Time-Period in 18-49 and Total Viewers
NEW YORK — Sept. 26, 2017 — “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has won the late-night ratings week of Sept. 18-22 in adults 18-49, according to “live plus same day” results from Nielsen Media Research.

For the week, “Tonight” generated a +35% margin of victory in adult 18-49 rating over CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (with a 0.58 rating versus a 0.43) and posted a +49% win versus ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (0.58 vs. 0.39). UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Sept. 26, 2017 — NBC has won the primetime ratings week of Sept. 18-24 in adults 18-49, total viewers and every other key measure, claiming the top three primetime shows of the week on the Big 4 networks in 18-49 and three of the top four in total viewers, according to “live plus same day” figures from Nielsen Media Research.
Raiders-Redskins “Sunday Night Football” ranked #1 among primetime broadcasts last week in adults 18-49, followed by the Tuesday and Wednesday season finales of “America’s Got Talent,” which tied for #2. “American Ninja Warrior” (#8) and Wednesday’s special second-season premiere of “The Good Place” (#10) joined those shows to give NBC five of the week’s top 10.

In total viewers, “Sunday Night Football” also ranked #1 among primetime Big 4 programs, Wednesday’s “America’s Got Talent” finished #2 and Tuesday’s “Talent” was #4.
These results conclude the 2016-17 television season, which NBC has won for a fourth year in a row in the key primetime demographic of adults 18-49. It’s the first time in 14 years NBC has won the September-to-September season without a Super Bowl or Olympics on its schedule. NBC claimed the season counting all programs and also won the separate categories of regular programming, scripted shows and alternative programs. In all programs, the network also won the season in every other key ratings demographic – adults, men and women 18-34; men and women 18-49; and adults, men and women 25-54 (including a tie in men 18-34).

NBC’s margin of +0.4 of a rating point in adults 18-49 for the season is the biggest win for any network in six years, since Fox held a +0.6 advantage at this point in the 2010-11 season. On a percentage basis, NBC won the season by +27% (with a 1.9 ratings vs. a 1.5 each for ABC, CBS and Fox), the largest percentage win for any network in 19 years, since NBC won the 1997-98 season by a +34% advantage.

This is the 13th time in 14 weeks NBC has finished #1 or tied for #1 in 18-49, while the network has taken 12 of 14 in total viewers. Counting entertainment programming only (excluding live news and sports) this is the 18th straight week NBC has finished #1 or tied for #1 in 18-49 and 25-54. In total viewers, NBC has won 16 of the last 18 weeks in entertainment-program ratings.

Monday
NBC tied for the nightlong win among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49.
The season finale of “American Ninja Warrior” (1.5/6 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) matched the show’s second-best rating of the summer in 18-49 (1.5 vs. last week’s season-high 1.6) and was the second most-watched “Ninja” finale ever, behind only the 6.2 million for the Sept. 14, 2015 season-closer. “Ninja” sliced the margin for “Dancing With the Stars” in the timeslot down to 0.1 (1.6 vs. 1.5) versus the year-ago 0.4 (2.1 for the “Dancing” debut vs. 1.7 for the “Ninja” finale on Sept. 12, 2016).
“Live Plus Three Day” Ratings: “Ninja” grew by +14% in 18-49 (from a 1.53 rating to a 1.74) and +740,000 viewers overall (6.0 million to 6.7 million) going from “live plus same day” Nielsens to L+3.
Upscale: “Ninja” is delivering a strong upscale audience, indexing at a 121 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes (with 100 representing an average concentration of those homes, “most current” including L+3).
The season finale of “Midnight, Texas” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) won the slot among ABC, CBS and NBC in 18-49, to remain undefeated versus its regular ABC-CBS competition in 18-49 through all 10 of its 10 telecasts this season (L+SD). “Midnight” jumped +33% week to week in 18-49 (0.8 vs. 0.6) and +8% in total viewers (2.7 million vs. 2.5 million, and equaled its 18-49 high since the show’s series premiere (0.9 on July 24). L+3: “Midnight, Texas” grew by +48% in 18-49 (0.79 to 1.17) and +1.2 million viewers overall (2.7 million to 3.9 million) going from L+SD to L+3, for the biggest lifts of the night on the Big 4 in 18-49 percentage and rating.

Tuesday
NBC won Tuesday night in 18-49, total viewers and every other key measure. It was NBC’s 36th win over the last 38 Tuesdays among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, and in total viewers, it was NBC’s 17th Tuesday win in a row among those nets.
“America’s Got Talent” (3.0/12 in 18-49, 14.7 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) delivered what prior to the Wednesday season finale was the show’s highest 18-49 rating in three years (since May 27, 2014, 3.0) and most-watched episode in six years (best since July 5, 2011, 15.779 million). The Sept. 19 telecast jumped +30% versus the prior week in 18-49 (3.0 vs. 2.3 for a 9-11 p.m. edition) and +3.1 million persons or +27% in total viewers (14.7 million vs. 11.6 million). The telecast also grew +7% versus last year’s performance finale in 18-49 (3.0 vs. 2.8 on Sept. 13, 2016) and +5% in total viewers (14.7 million vs. 14.0 million), making this the show’s top-rated performance finale in 18-49 in six years (since Sept. 13, 2011, 3.8) and most-watched performance finale ever. “Talent” was the #1 show of the night on the Big 4 networks in 18-49, total viewers and every other key measure. L+3: “Talent” increased by +17% in 18-49 (3.03 to 3.56) and +2.1 million viewers overall (14.7 million to 16.8 million) going from L+SD to L+3 Nielsens. The increases of +0.53 of a rating point and +2.1 million viewers overall were the night’s biggest L+3 lifts in 18-49 rating and total viewers.
“The Paley Center Salutes the Best of Will & Grace” (1.1/5 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) dominated at 10 in 18-49 among ABC, CBS and NBC, winning every key demo. The Sept. 19 telecast outrated the prior five Paley Center primetime specials on the Big 4 networks, delivering the highest rating for those specials since Nov. 26, 2010 (“TV’s Funniest Holiday Moments,” 1.2 on Fox). In total viewers, the “Will & Grace” telecast outdelivered the previous six Paley Center specials, with the biggest overall audience for one of the specials since June 16, 2010 (“TV’s Greatest Surprises,” 6.6 million on CBS).

NBC ranked #1 Wednesday night in 18-49, total viewers and every other key measure, marking the seventh consecutive Wednesday NBC has ranked #1 in total viewers and the sixth time in seven Wednesdays NBC has finished #1 or tied for #1 in 18-49.
The 12th season finale of “America’s Got Talent” (3.0/12 in 18-49, 15.6 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) scored a six-year Wednesday high for the series in 18-49 (best Wednesday rating since Sept. 14, 2011, 3.6) and a six-year “Talent” high for any night in total viewers (best since 15.8 million on Tuesday, July 5, 2011). It was AGT’s top-rated finale in six years in 18-49 (since a 3.6 on Sept. 14, 2011) and most-watched finale in seven years (since averaging a series-record 16.4 million on Sept. 15, 2010). “Talent” grew +43% week to week in 18-49 (3.0 vs. 2.1 for last week’s 8-9:01 p.m. telecast) and +4.1 million persons or +35% in total viewers (15.642 million vs. 11.590 million). It’s the most-watched primetime non-sports telecast on the broadcast networks since the Oscars on Feb. 26 (32.9 million). Versus last year’s season finale, “Talent” grew +7% in 18-49 (3.0 vs. 2.8 on Sept. 14, 2016) and +1.2 million persons or +9% in total viewers (15.6 million vs. 14.4 million). A special Wednesday Season 2 debut of “The Good Place” (1.3/5 in 18-49, 5.3 viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) grew +18% versus the show’s finale last season in 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.1 from 8-9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19) and was up more than +1.3 million persons or +34% in total viewers (5.6 million vs. 3.9 million). “Good Place” earned NBC’s highest 18-49 and total-viewer Nielsens in the slot since May 24 (1.4 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall for the second hour of the “SVU” season finale) and topped every “Good Place” regular-slot result from last season in total viewers. The special second-season debut won its time period in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and most other key measure. TODAY also won the season in A18-49, its 24th straight season win. TODAY narrowed the total viewer gap with GMA by 8% versus last season, excluding the Rio Olympics.

For the third quarter 2017, TODAY was the number-one show in the key demo, marking its eight straight quarter win. Versus the second quarter 2017, TODAY closed the total viewer gap with GMA by 28% and increased its lead over CBS by 8%.

SEPT. 26, 2017 – NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt is the #1 most-watched evening broadcast for the 2016-2017 season in the demo valued most by news advertisers, winning its 21st consecutive season as a broadcast.

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt joins NBC News’ TODAY, Meet the Press with Chuck Todd and Dateline, as all four network news programs are #1 in the valued A25-54 demo for the second straight season.
Last night, Holt anchored the broadcast from San Juan, Puerto Rico, as the first network anchor on the ground covering the island’s devastation from Hurricane Maria. In the 2016-2017 broadcast season, Holt moderated the most-watched presidential debate in history and exclusively interviewed President Trump in May, the interview of record after the firing of FBI Director James Comey. Holt just concluded the season with a sit-down interview at the United Nations with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, following his marathon of on-the-ground coverage of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey, where he anchored for days straight in both Texas and Florida.

Nightly News dominated the key demo this season, averaging 1.940 million A25-54 viewers and beating its competition by a double-digit landslide: +191,000 (+11 percent) more than ABC World News Tonight and +497,000 (+34 percent) more than CBS Evening News. The broadcast now commands its biggest advantage in the key demo over CBS in three seasons (since 2013-2014).

Nightly News also leads among A18-49 viewers, averaging 1.413 million for the season and beating ABC by +183,000 (+15 percent) and CBS by +420,000 (+42 percent). All four NBC News broadcasts are #1 among A18-49 viewers this season.

Nightly News is the unrivaled social media frontrunner compared to its competition, outpacing other shows with more Facebook fans and the highest engagement rate on Twitter. Nightly News broke ground this August when it became the first evening broadcast to livestream its programming on Facebook across the country to viewers in their respective markets.

Nightly News won the key demo for the third quarter of 2017, averaging 1.762 million viewers and outperforming ABC by 118,000 (+7 percent) and CBS by +500,000 (+40 percent). An average of 1.271 million A18-49 viewers tuned in: +125,000 (+11 percent) more than ABC and +424,000 (+50 percent) more than CBS. Among A25-54 viewers, Nightly News has now won 35 of the last 38 quarters, and among A18-49 viewers, Nightly News has won 80 of the last 83 quarters. An average of 7.606 million total viewers tuned into Nightly News this quarter, topping CBS by +1.721 million (+29 percent).

Nightly News is also #1 in both demos for the month of September, marking 27 consecutive months at #1 with both audiences. Nightly News averaged 1.991 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +168,000 (+9 percent) and CBS by +636,000 (+47 percent). The broadcast delivered an average of 1.423 million A18-49 viewers, leading ABC by +163,000 (+13 percent) and CBS by +494,000 (+53%). An average of 8.189 million total viewers tuned into Nightly News this month, besting CBS by +1.951 million (+31 percent).

For the week of Sept. 18, Nightly News continues its dominance in the key demo, now winning for 66 consecutive weeks. The broadcast averaged 1.854 million A25-54 viewers, leading ABC by +90,000 (five percent) and CBS by +592,000 (+47 percent). Among A18-49, Nightly News averaged 1.322 million viewers, topping ABC by +125,000 (ten percent) and CBS by +444,000 (+51 percent). The NBC News broadcast has ranked #1 in A18-49 for 111 of the last 112 weeks. UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Sept. 19, 2017 — NBC has tied for #1 in adults 18-49 and finished #1 outright in total viewers during the primetime ratings week of Sept. 11-17, claiming the top three primetime shows of the week on the Big 4 networks in total viewers, according to “live plus same day” figures from Nielsen Media Research.

In 18-49, “Sunday Night Football” ranked #1 for the week among primetime telecasts on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, followed by Tuesday’s “America’s Got Talent” (#3), Wednesday’s “Talent” (#5), Monday’s “American Ninja Warrior” (tied for #8) and Wednesday’s 9 p.m. telecast of “Marlon” (tied for #13). Rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows.
In total viewers, it was: “Sunday Night Football” (#1), Tuesday’s “Talent” (#2), Wednesday’s “Talent (#3), “Ninja” (#9), “Marlon” (#16) and “Dateline NBC” (#19).

Excluding sports, NBC led the week in adults 18-49 and finished #1 or tied for #1 among the Big 4 in adults and men 25-54, men and women 18-49 and men 18-34.

This is the 12thtime in 13 weeks NBC has finished #1 or tied for #1 in 18-49, while the network has taken 11 of 13 in total viewers. Counting entertainment programming only (excluding live news and sports) this is the 17thstraight week NBC has finished #1 or tied for #1 in 18-49 and 25-54. In total viewers, NBC has won 15 of the last 17 weeks in entertainment-program ratings.

Season to date, NBC ranks #1 in adults 18-49, with a +27% margin over ABC, CBS and Fox (1.9 vs. 1.5 each). NBC also ranks #1 for the season among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in every other key demographic (including a tie for #1 in men 18-34).

In total viewers, NBC ranks #2 and, when excluding sports, is running within 1.040 million persons of first-place CBS in that category, the closest it’s been to CBS at this point in the season excluding sports in 14 years.

In the key adult 18-49 demographic, NBC is #1 for the season when counting all programming as well as with entertainment programming only, scripted shows only and alternative programs only, and is also #1 in alternative programs in total viewers.

In “most current” ratings from Nielsen Media Research through Sept. 17, with one week left to count in the September-to-September season, NBC is averaging a 1.9 rating in adults 18-49 to rank #1 for the season with a margin that’s certain to stand when the full averages are reported by Nielsen next week.

It’s the first time NBC has won the September-to-September season in 18-49 with no boost from an Olympics or Super Bowl in 14 years, since taking the 2002-03 season.

NBC’s margin of +0.4 of a rating point in adults 18-49 is the biggest win for any network in six years, since Fox held a +0.6 advantage at this point in the 2010-11 season. On a percentage basis, NBC is leading by +27%, the largest percentage lead for any network with one week left to count in the season in 19 years, since NBC led the 1997-98 season by a +34% advantage.

In total viewers, excluding live news and sports, NBC is averaging 6.790 million persons, to pull within 1.040 million viewers of CBS’ 7.830 million. That’s the closest NBC has run to CBS in total viewers with one week to go in the season, excluding sports, since 2002-03, when the gap was 598,000.

NBC has won 33 weeks this season in adults 18-49 among the Big 4 networks (including four ties, L+SD), while CBS, ABC and Fox have won a combined 24 weeks (including four ties), marking the fourth season in a row NBC has won more weeks in 18-49 than the other Big 4 networks combined.

NBC’s primetime lineup has also dominated the ratings for the summer of 2017, and is headed toward its seventh consecutive summer win in adults 18-49 and third in a row in total viewers.

The network’s strong summer was paced by the Tuesday edition of “America’s Got Talent,” the #1 most-watched entertainment series on all of television in “live plus same day” full-season Nielsen averages that include regular originals and encores, with an average of 12.8 million viewers. In L+7, all “Talent” originals have achieved a viewership of 15.7 million, which is up +14% versus last summer to make this the show’s most-watched season ever.
NBC also launched the biggest hit of the summer, “World of Dance,” featuring judge and executive producer Jennifer Lopez. In “live plus same day” Nielsens, “World of Dance” ranks as the season’s #2 new series on all of television in 18-49 and #1 new alternative show in 18-49 and total viewers. With a L+7 average of 10.1 million viewers overall, “World of Dance” is the most-watched new summer alternative series on the broadcast nets in 10 years.

In the 10:30 lead-in to local news this season NBC ranked a decisive #1 averaging a 2.1 rating in the key news demographic of adults 25-54 Mondays through Fridays from 10:30-11 p.m., versus a 1.7 for CBS and a 1.6 for ABC.

NBC has also delivered #1 ratings in late night, with “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” leading their ABC and CBS time-period competition for the season in every key ratings demographic. The network also generated #1 Nielsens in morning news, with “Today” leading in the adult 18-49 and adults 25-54 demographics; in evening news, with “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” also ranking #1 in 18-49 and 25-54; and in Sunday morning public affairs, with “Meet the Press” #1 in 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers.

For the week of 9/4, TODAY was the number-one morning show outright topping ABC’s “Good Morning America” in total viewers and all demos, its first weekly win this year according to revised Nielsen ratings. For the week of 9/11, TODAY once again won the week in the key demo A25-54, marking 90 straight weeks in the top spot (106 of the last 107 weeks), its best streak in more than five years.

last two weeks:
- Nielsen revised the original published ratings data for the week of 9/4 resulting in a total viewer win for TODAY. The original data previously reported that TODAY won that week in the key demo only, as opposed to an outright win in total viewers and the key demo.

- For the week of 9/11, the ratings are completely misleading. For the week, “Tonight” generated a +32% margin of victory in adult 18-49 rating over ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” with a 0.58 rating versus a 0.44. CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was in rebroadcast and averaged a 0.32 rating for the week. Friday’s “Kimmel” was also an encore and Tuesday’s telecast was retitled and excluded from weekly averages.

At 12:35 a.m. ET last week, “Late Night with Seth Meyers” finished #1 in the timeslot versus CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in all key ratings categories, and in their head-to-head half-hour from 12:30 to 1 a.m. ET, “Late Night” beat ABC’s “Nightline” in every key measure.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Sept. 14, 2017 — NBC has dominated the primetime ratings week of Sept. 4-10 in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key measures, claiming four of the top six primetime entertainment shows of the week on the Big 4 networks in 18-49 and four of the top four in total viewers.

According to “live plus same day” figures from Nielsen Media Research, “Sunday Night Football” and “Thursday Night Football” rank #1-2 respectively on the broadcast networks for the week in both 18-49 and total viewers, with Tuesday and Wednesday editions of “America’s Got Talent” ranking #4 and 6 in 18-49 and #3 and 4 in total viewers. Rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows.

NBC took six of seven nights of the week in 18-49 among the Big 4 networks, leading every night except Saturday.

NBC’s 3.2 rating in 18-49 and 10.5 million viewers for the week in adults 18-49 are highs for any network since Super Bowl week last Jan. 30-Feb. 5, when Fox averaged a 9.8 in 18-49 and 29.7 million viewers overall. It’s also the highest-rated week for NBC in the past year (since Sept. 5-11, 2016, 3.3) and most-watched week for NBC in nine months (since Dec. 5-11, 2016, 10.6 million).

This is NBC’s 11th win in the last 12 weeks in 18-49, while the network has taken 10 of 12 in total viewers. Counting entertainment programming only (excluding live news and sports) this is the 16th straight week NBC has finished as the #1 network in 18-49 and 25-54. In total viewers, NBC has won 15 of the last 16 weeks in entertainment-program ratings.
Joining NBC Sports’ coverage of Sunday and Thursday NFL football and Tuesday and Wednesday editions of “America’s Got Talent” among the week’s top 20 primetime shows on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox were Monday’s “American Ninja Warrior” (#10), Wednesday’s 9 p.m. “Marlon” (tied for #14), Saturday’s Notre Dame Football (tied for #16) and Tuesday’s “Hollywood Game Night” (tied for #20).

“America’s Got Talent” (2.6/10 in 18-49, 13.3 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) ranked as the #1 show of the night on the Big 4 networks in 18-49, total viewers and every other key measure, maintaining 100% of the ratings for last year’s fourth live performance episode in 18-49 (2.6 vs. 2.6 on Aug. 30, 2016) and growing +1.0 million persons or +8% in total viewers (13.291 million vs. 12.282 million). “Talent” dominated the time period in every key measure, beating the ABC, CBS and Fox timeslot competition combined in adults 18-49 and total viewers. NBC finished #1 Wednesday night in 18-49 and total viewers, marking the fifth consecutive Wednesday NBC has ranked #1 in total viewers and the fourth time in five Wednesdays NBC has finished #1 in 18-49.
“America’s Got Talent” (2.1/9 in 18-49, 12.0 million viewers overall from 8-9:01 p.m. ET) generated the show’s most-watched Wednesday live results show, excluding finales, in six years (since Sept. 7, 2011, 12.4 million), while matching the show’s Wednesday high this summer in 18-49 and hitting a new Wednesday season high in total viewers. “Talent” was up +11% week to week in 18-49 (2.1 vs. 1.9) and +8% in total viewers (12.0 million vs. 11.1 million). Versus last year’s fourth Wednesday live results show, “Talent” was up +5% in 18-49 (2.1 vs. 2.0 on Aug. 31, 2016) and +1.5 million persons or +14% in total viewers (11.990 million vs. 10.503 million). L+3: The Wednesday “Talent” increased by +19% in 18-49 (2.12 to 2.48) and +1.5 million viewers overall (12.0 million to 13.5 million) going from L+SD to L+3 Nielsens, for the biggest L+3 lift of the night in total viewers. L+7: The Wednesday “Talent” is growing by +29% in 18-49 rating going from L+SD to L+7 (from a 2.08 to a 2.48) and +2.4 million viewers overall (10.9 million to 13.3 million).
“Marlon” (1.2/5 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall from 9:01-9:30 p.m. ET) equaled its series high in 18-49 and delivered its #2 best result to date in total viewers, with week-to-week gains of +9% in 18-49 (1.2 vs. 1.1) and +9% in total viewers (5.0 million vs. 4.6 million) to score the highest Week 4 results for any original scripted series on the Big 4 this summer. “Marlon” tied for #1 in the half-hour among the Big 4 networks in 18-49 and won the slot outright among those nets in total viewers. L+3: “Marlon” increased by +20% in 18-49 (1.22 to 1.46) and +547,000 viewers overall (5.0 million to 5.5 million) going from L+SD to L+3 Nielsens. L+7: “Marlon” has grown by +31% this season in 18-49 rating (from a 1.17 to a 1.53) and +892,000 viewers overall (4.9 million to 5.8 million) going from L+SD to L+7.
A second episode of “Marlon” (0.9/4 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall from 9:30-10 p.m. ET) matched the show’s 9:30 results for the prior two weeks in 18-49 and grew week to week by +3% in total viewers (3.526 million vs. 3.455 million). The 9:30 “Marlon” was up +67% versus NBC’s summer average in the time period prior to “Marlon’s” debut in 18-49 (1.0 vs. 0.6) and +21% in total viewers (3.6 million vs. 2.9 million). L+3: The 9:30 “Marlon” grew by +23% in 18-49 (0.93 to 1.14) and +477,000 viewers overall (3.5 million to 4.0 million) going from L+SD to L+3 figures. “Hollywood Game Night” (0.7/3 in 18-49, 2.7 viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) won the slot among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 and was #1 or tied for #1 among those nets in every other key demographic.

Thursday
NBC Sports coverage of the Kansas City Chiefs-New England Patriots NFL Kickoff Game (7.7/29 in 18-49, 21.8 million viewers overall from 8:42-midnight ET) won the night among the broadcast networks in 18-49, total viewers and all other key measures, beating the Big 4 competition combined in every key category. The average of 21.8 million viewers made the Chiefs-Patriots game television’s most-watched program, prior to Sunday’s NFL coverage, since Game 5 of the NBA Finals on ABC June 12, 2017. The Average Minute Audience for the Sept. 7 live stream via the NBC Sports app, NBCSports.com, NBC.com ‘TV Everywhere’ and NFL Mobile from Verizon was 355,000 viewers, the highest ever for a game in the “Sunday Night Football” package. It was also the most-streamed “Sunday Night Football” game ever, with fans consuming 82.7 million minutes of NBC Sports Digital’s live stream across 1.3 million unique devices, up +38% and +28%, respectively, from the year-earlier NFL Kickoff game.

From the first half-hour of primetime to the sixth, the game grew by +67% in 18-49 rating (0.9 to 1.5) and +1.3 million persons or +36% in total viewers (3.5 million to 4.8 million).

Sunday
NBC Sports coverage of New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys “Sunday Night Football” (9.1/30 in 18-49, 24.4 million viewers overall from 8:32-11:10 p.m. ET) won the night in all key ratings measures, with gains versus the year-ago “SNF” Sunday debut of +8% in adults 18-49 (9.1 vs. 8.4 for Patriots-Cardinals on Sept. 11, 2016) and +1.3 million persons or +6% in total viewers (24.4 million vs. 23.1 million). NEW YORK (September 14, 2017) – “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” won the key demo for the week of September 4, marking its 64th straight week as the #1 most-watched evening broadcast.

The broadcast continues its winning streak in the demo most valued by news advertisers averaging 2.2 million A25-54 viewers, beating “ABC World News Tonight” by +222,000 viewers (+11%) and “CBS Evening News” by +737,000 viewers (+49%). Nightly News also grew year over year by 15 percent in the A25-54 demo, reaching a 31-week high.

For the week, Nightly News averaged 1.6 million A18-49 viewers, topping ABC by +221,000 viewers (+16%) and CBS by +607,000 viewers (+61%). Among A18-49 viewers, Nightly News has won 109 of the last 110 weeks and reached a 31-week high.

8.7 million total viewers tuned in to Nightly News for the week of September 4, marking its largest audience in 30 weeks. Nightly News bested “CBS Evening News” by +2.0 million total viewers (+30%).

Nightly News continues as the #1 most-watched evening newscast season-to-date in the key demo, delivering its largest demo lead over CBS in three seasons.

Last week was the second time in two consecutive weeks that Holt anchored the broadcast out of the studio, anchoring five consecutive Nightly News broadcasts live (Thurs., Sept. 7 – Mon., Sept. 11) from various Florida cities and co-anchoring a special edition of “TODAY” on Sunday, Sept. 10 to cover Hurricane Irma. Seth Meyers Hits a Six-Month High in 18-49, Finishes Within 0.03 of Kimmel and 0.01 of Colbert Despite Starting an Hour Later

NEW YORK — Sept. 14, 2017 — “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has delivered its top-rated week in nearly six months to earn ratings wins for the week of Sept. 4-8 versus the timeslot competition on ABC and CBS in every key demographic – adults, men and women 18-34; adults, men and women 18-49; and adults, men and women 25-54 -- according to “live plus same day” results from Nielsen Media Research.

For the week, “Tonight” averaged a 0.74 rating in adults 18-49, the show’s highest in 25 weeks, since it averaged a 0.75 for the week of March 13-17. In total viewers, “Tonight” hit an 11-week high (2.638 million), its best since June 19-23 (2.659 million).

Pacing “Tonight’s” strong week was the Thursday, Sept. 7 telecast, delayed by a primetime NFL overrun, which scored the show’s highest rating in 18-49 (1.17) since Thursday Dec. 22, 2016 (1.19) and was the most-watched “Tonight” telecast (3.204 million) since Friday, March 17 (3.350 million).

At 12:35 a.m. ET last week, “Late Night with Seth Meyers” nearly matched Kimmel and Colbert in 18-49, despite starting an hour later. Meyers averaged a 0.41 rating for the week to finish within 0.03 of Kimmel (0.44) and 0.01 of Colbert (0.42).

Meyers’ 0.41 is the show’s highest rating in six months, since another 0.41 for the week of Feb. 27-March 3. The last time “Late Night” rated higher than a 0.41 was the week of Dec. 19-23, 2016 (0.47). In total viewers, “Late Night” logged a 12-week high (1.415 million), its biggest overall audience since the week of June 12-16 (1.420 million).

Meyers finished #1 in the timeslot versus CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in all key demographics, and in their head-to-head half-hour from 12:30 to 1 a.m. ET, “Late Night” also beat ABC’s “Nightline” in every key measure.

Monday results are excluded from the weekly averages due to the Labor Day holiday.
