Time Life has scheduled a pair of retail DVD releases for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. First up on September 19th is the 10-disc set The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson - Johnny And Friends: The Complete Collection. Priced at $99.95 SRP, you'll get episodes from the 70s, 80s and 90s, complete with original commercials. The studio says to expect guest stars " Robin Williams, David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld, Burt Reynolds, Rodney Dangerfield, Bob Hope, Don Rickles, Dolly Parton, Eddie Murphy, Bob Newhart, Tony Bennett and Many, Many More." They also have this to say: Celebrating the Original King of Late Night, THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON: JOHNNY AND FRIENDS: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION, is the ultimate 10-disc set bringing together all the greatest moments and Johnny's most legendary guests from the show's 30 year, 4,000 episode run. Carefully selected from the vaults by Carson archivists, this loaded collection features over 27 hours of classic Johnny - full, unedited episodes and original commercials from the '70s, '80s and '90s about which Inside Pulse says, "It's always interesting to see what was being sold to America after dark." Also included is a specially-produced 28-page memory book filled with incredible and rare archival photos and nearly two hours of bonus features!

Coming out a week later, on September 26th, is The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson - The Vault Series: Collector's Edition. If this sounds familiar to you, well...it is. Back in October 2014 we reported about 3 TSSJC DVD collections, including " The Vault Series: Volumes 1-6." This new release of The Vault Series: Collector's Edition appears to be the same item, with the same content, with a slightly different name shown on the package art (which is otherwise the same). We've compared the content listed in the press release for the new " Collector's Edition," and we see NO DIFFERENCES between it and the " Volumes 1-6" content...so if you already own the latter, skip this new one. It's just a retail distribution of the same thing, for $59.95 SRP (or you can buy Volumes 1-6 from Johnny's site for $37.99, as of this writing).
