ABC’s “The View” averaged 3.030 million Total Viewers, 505,000 Women 25-54 and 351,000 Women 18-49 during the week of December 11, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.620 million, 379,000 and 277,000, respectively) by its largest margin of the season in Total Viewers (+410,000), while also leading among Women 25-54 (+126,000) and Women 18-49 (+74,000).

On Wednesday (12/13/17) with Former Vice President Joe Biden, “The View” scored its 3rd most watched telecast on any day this season (3.186 million).

“The View” widened its advantages over CBS’ “The Talk” year to year in Total Viewers (+28% – 410,000 vs. 320,000) and Women 25-54 (+13% – 126,000 vs. 112,000).

“The View” grew for the 2nd straight week in Total Viewers (+4% – 3.030 million vs. 2.927 million) to its largest overall audience in nearly 1 year, while improving for the 3rd consecutive week in Women 18-49 (+1% – 351,000 vs. 347,000) to hit a 9-week high – since the weeks of 1/23/17 and 10/9/17, respectively.  

For the 3rd week in a row, “The View” improved on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+3% – 3.030 million vs. 2.931 million).

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (355,000 vs. 192,000), Women 25-54 (118,000 vs. 57,000) and Women 18-49 (74,000 vs. 71,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

Opposite CBS’ fall finale for “The Big Bang Theory” and NBC’s NFL pre-game coverage on Thursday at 8:00 p.m., ABC’s TV debut of “The Wonderful World of Disney: Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” drew an impressive 5.7 million viewers and 1.4 rating, 6 share in Adults 18-49, as only “Big Bang Theory” and its lead-out “Young Sheldon” finished higher on the night among entertainment programming. In addition, the Disney animated special stood as Thursday’s No. 1 TV show with Female Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11, drawing a season high for ABC to the time period on the latter measure.

At 8:30 p.m. against CBS’ “Young Sheldon” and the start of “Thursday Night Football” on NBC, ABC’s annual encore of “Disney Prep & Landing” built over its year-ago night telecast (on 12/15/16 at 8:00 p.m.) with Total Viewers (+8% – 4.1 million vs. 3.8 million) and spiked 38% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4 vs. 0.8/3). In viewers and young adults, “Disney Prep & Landing” posted its highest numbers in 3 years – since 2014.

ABC Wednesday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.0 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
Posting viewership increases across the night for the final original telecasts of its comedies in 2017 and winter finale of “Designated Survivor,” ABC finished a strong 2nd on Wednesday in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5) to Fox with the “Empire” fall finale, beating CBS by 20% (1.0/4) and NBC by 50% (0.8/3). 

  • Leading off the evening at 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Goldbergs” surged over the prior week by 13% in Total Viewers (6.1 million vs. 5.4 million) and grew 7% in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6 vs. 1.5/6), hitting a best-since-premiere number with viewers and its highest young adult number since the 2nd week of the season – since 9/27/17 and 10/4/17, respectively.



  • At 8:30 p.m., ABC’s “Speechless” also gained viewers week to week (+7% – 4.6 million vs. 4.3 million) and held even with Adults 18-49 (1.1/4), marking its most watched telecast since its September season premiere – since 9/27/17.

  • At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Modern Family” moved up to rank No. 1 in its half-hour among Adults 18-49 (1.7/7). The ABC comedy saw its overall audience grow from the prior week (+2% – 5.9 million vs. 5.8 million) and held even in Adults 18-49 to match a 2-month high – since 10/11/17.



  • In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC’s “American Housewife” ran No. 1 in the slot with Adults 18-49 (1.3/5), tying the second half-hour of Fox’s fall finale of “Star.” The ABC sophomore comedy added viewers week to week (4.8 million vs. 4.5 million) and posted its 2nd straight week of growth with an 8% bump in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 1.2/5).

  • In the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Designated Survivor” winter finale ranked No. 1 in its slot with young adults (tie) and built by double digits week to week in both Total Viewers (+13% – 4.4 million vs. 3.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (+14% – 0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3) to draw a 9-week viewership high and equal its best young adult number since the same date – since 10/11/17. Editors please note: “Designated Survivor” is scheduled for its midseason return with all-new episodes on February 28, 2018, at 10:00 p.m.

                                                                                                                  
“Designated Survivor” Is Fall 2017’s Only Show to More Than Double Its Audience in Playback: 
Spiking by +111% in Live + 7 Day, ABC’s “Designated Survivor” is the only broadcast series of fall 2017 to more than double its Total Viewer count from L+SD ratings to L+7 and, with a +138% lift in L+7 Adults 18-49, is also the fall’s top gainer on the major nets with young adults.

On their final telecasts of 2017, ABC’s Tuesday night comedies grew across the board, with “black-ish” and “The Mayor” closing out at multiweek highs.

  • At 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Middle” grew 8% in Adults 18-49 over the prior week (1.3/5 vs. 1.2/5) and ranked as Tuesday’s No. 1 comedy.



  • At 8:30 p.m., ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat” built week to week by 3% in Total Viewers (3.9 million vs. 3.8 million) and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.9/4).

  • At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “black-ish” grew over the prior week by 8% in Total Viewers (4.3 million vs. 4.0 million) and shot up 20% in Adults 18-49(1.2/4 vs. 1.0/4), scoring 9-week highson both counts – since 10/10/17.



  • At 9:30 p.m., ABC’s “The Mayor” increased week to week by 4% in Total Viewers (2.8 million vs. 2.7 million) and by 14% Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3) to deliver 7-week highson both counts – since 10/24/17. The ABC freshman comedy beat Fox’s competing 1-hour “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (1.7 million and 0.7/2) in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour by 1.1 million viewers and by 14% in Adults 18-49.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.893 million Total Viewers, 496,000 Women 25-54 and 326,000 Women 18-49 during the week of November 27, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.614 million, 403,000 and 271,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+279,000), Women 25-54 (+93,000) and Women 18-49 (+55,000).

“The View” increased its leads over CBS’ “The Talk” year to year in Total Viewers (+221% – 279,000 vs. 87,000) and Women 25-54 (+45% – 93,000 vs. 64,000).

“The View” improved over the previous week (488,000 and 318,000, respectively) in Women 25-54 (+2%) and Women 18-49 (+3%).

“The View” was up on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+1% – 2.893 million vs. 2.859 million).

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (344,000 vs. 174,000), Women 25-54 (114,000 vs. 52,000) and Women 18-49 (71,000 vs. 69,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

‘Nightline’ Improves Year Over Year in Total Viewers

‘Nightline’ Narrows Its Margins With NBC’s ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ Week to Week and Year Over Year in Total Viewers and in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 Versus Previous Year

Season to Date, ‘Nightline’ Leads CBS in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.392 million Total Viewers, 498,000 Adults 25-54 and 372,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of November 27, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (484,000 and 360,000, respectively) in Adults 25-54 (+14,000) and Adults 18-49 (+12,000).  

“Nightline” increased its Total Viewer audience year to year (+7% – 1.392 million vs. 1.300 million on w/o 11/28/16).

“Nightline” cut its margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” from the previous week in Total Viewers (-2% – 187,000 vs. 190,000).

“Nightline” narrowed its gaps from the same week last year with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in all key target demos: Total Viewers (-27% – 187,000 vs. 256,000), Adults 25-54 (-24% – 165,000 vs. 216,000) and Adults 18-49 (-27% – 167,000 vs. 230,000). 

Season to date, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Total Viewers (+38,000 – 1.470 million vs. 1.432 million), Adults 25-54 (+23,000 – 539,000 vs. 516,000) and Adults 18-49 (+16,000 – 404,000 vs. 388,000).

Stories on “Nightline” last week included a visit to Kaktovik, Alaska, for an in-depth look at polar bears who are wandering into town because of disappearing sea ice and a discussion with climate change experts who say the polar bears and Alaskan villagers’ way of life are at risk; interviews with two women who recounted their sexual assaults at Massage Envy spa; Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first sit-down interview following the royal engagement; a look at the Swedish Right whose members say the mission is to preserve heritage and the latest details; and reaction on NBC host Matt Lauer’s firing following a complaint of “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.”

“The Great Christmas Light Fight” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 5.6 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
Taking 2nd with young adults from 8:00-10:00 p.m. opposite NBC’s “The Voice,” week 1 of ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” gained 4% in viewers (5.6 million vs. 5.4 million) from its same-night last-year telecast (on 12/5/16) and held even with Adults 18-49 (1.1/4).

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 9.4 million and 1.7/7 in AD18-49):
Spiking over its lead-in at 10:00 p.m. (+68%/+55%) to rank as Monday’s No. 1 scripted TV show, ABC’s winter finale for “The Good Doctor” towered over NBC’s “The Wall” holiday special in the hour by 100% in Total Viewers (9.4 million vs. 4.7 million) and by 70% in Adults 18-49 (1.7/7 vs. 1.0/4). The ABC freshman drama has delivered the Top 6 biggest single Live + 7 Day lifts for any show this season in Total Viewers, adding +7.3 million viewers on average from L+SD to L+7.

  • Season to date in Nielsen’s Most Current data stream (includes available TV Playback), ABC’s “The Good Doctor” is TV’s most watched drama of fall 2017(over CBS’ “NCIS” and NBC’s “This Is Us”) as well as the top 10 o’clock series in Total Viewers (17.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.8/15). It has also emerged as the No. 1 new TV series of the fall, over CBS’ “Big Bang”-led “Young Sheldon.” “The Good Doctor” is generating huge triple-digit time period improvementyear to year for ABC on Monday at 10:00 p.m. in Total Viewers (+169%) and Adults 18-49 (+192%), posting the highest gains for any network in any hour this season.
