Featuring “American Idol” and “The Crossing,” ABC nearly caught “The Voice”-led NBC for No. 1 on Monday in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 1.3/5) and won the night with Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Teens 12-17.
“American Idol” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.6 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “American Idol” built over its week-ago Fast Affiliate numbers by 10% in Total Viewers (7.6 million vs. 6.9 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 1.3/5). ABC’s “American Idol” came within a best-ever 1-tenth of NBC’s “The Voice” in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 1.5/6), while beating the NBC unscripted show to rank as Monday’s No. 1 series in Adults 18-34, Women 18-34, Men 18-34 and Teens 12-17.
Across social platforms, ABC’s “American Idol” more than doubled the engagement for NBC’s “The Voice” on the night, holding a 151% advantage (806.3K vs. 320.7K).
“The Crossing” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.2 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Crossing” held exactly even week to week in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3) and grew 2% in Total Viewers (4.2 million vs. 4.1 million). Continuing to greatly improve its time period, “The Crossing” built over the year-ago night with “Quantico” in the hour by 62% in Total Viewers (4.2 million vs. 2.6 million) and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.5/2).

ABC Improves Its Viewership Year Over Year for the 8th Consecutive Week
With ‘Roseanne” repeating as the week’s No. 1 TV show, ABC continued to dominate the top of the ratings charts. During the week of April 16, 2018, ABC claimed a network-leading 6 of the week’s Top 15 broadcast programs in Adults 18-49: “Roseanne” – No. 1, “Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 6, “American Idol-SUN” – No. 8, “American Idol-MON” – No. 11, while “Alex, Inc. SP-4/17”
and “Scandal” tied at No. 14. ABC’s “Roseanne” also stood as the week’s most watched TV show overall for the 4th time in as many weeks.
ABC finished as the No. 1 network in prime time with Adults 18-49 (0.9/4-tie) for the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks.
ABC marked its 8th straight week of year-over-year Total Viewer gains, advancing 7% from the same week last year (4.4 million vs. 4.1 million) and holding exactly even in Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 vs. 0.9/3).

Season to Date, ‘Nightline’ Leads CBS’ ‘The Late Late Show With James Corden’ in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49
ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.330 million), during the week of April 16, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” outdelivered CBS’ “The Late Late Show” (1.297 million) by 33,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers-SM” (1.185 million) by 145,000.
“Nightline” increased week to week in Total Viewers (+3% – 1.330 million vs. 1.287 million).
“Nightline” turned in gains versus the same week last year (1.316 million and 348,000, respectively, for w/o 4/17/17) in Total Viewers (+1%) and Adults 18-49 (+2%).
Season to date, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” across the board: Total Viewers (+11,000 – 1.415 million vs. 1.404 million), Adults 25-54 (+30,000 – 520,000 vs. 490,000) and Adults 18-49 (+29,000 – 393,000 vs. 364,000).
Stories on “Nightline” last week included more from George Stephanopoulos’ exclusive interview with former FBI Director James Comey; a group discussion across the political spectrum to weigh in on Comey’s interview; an analysis of what happened after Southwest flight 1380 made an emergency landing due to an engine failing; an interview with the two men who were arrested in a Philadelphia Starbucks about what they say happened during their arrest; a look at Stormy Daniels’ appearance on “The View” where she revealed a sketch of the man she says threatened her and her child in 2011; and an interview with Kerry Washington about “Scandal”’s final season and the star’s journey on the political drama.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 3.044 million Total Viewers, 488,000 Women 25-54 and 328,000 Women 18-49, during the week of April 16, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” led CBS’ “The Talk” (2.369 million, 426,000 and 288,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+675,000), Women 25-54 (+62,000) and Women 18-49 (+40,000), posting its largest overall viewer lead of the season since season premiere week over 7 months ago – since w/o 9/4/17.
“The View” improved on the previous week (2.730 million, 469,000 and 324,000, respectively, for w/o 4/9/18) in Total Viewers (+12%), Women 25-54 (+4%) and Women 18-49 (+1%). In fact, “The View” drew its largest overall audience in 3 months and posted its best Women 25-54 performance in 2 months – since weeks of 1/15/18 and 2/12/18, respectively.
For the 2nd week in a row, “The View” improved year to year in Total Viewers (+15% – 3.044 million vs. 2.651 million) and Women 18-49 (+2% – 328,000 vs. 320,000).
Season to date, “The View” is posting gains compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+1% – 2.927 million vs. 2.891 million), marking its most watched season in 4 years – since the 2013-14 season.
In addition, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (340,000 vs. 178,000), Women 25-54 (93,000 vs. 60,000) and Women 18-49 (63,000 vs. 59,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.
