- TV One's new four part true crime docu-series, EVIDENCE OF INNOCENCE debuted
at an exclusive screening at the NCTA Theater in Washington, D.C., for journalists, law professionals, social justice activists, network executives and influencers. The discussion and Q&A session following the screening was moderated by Roland
Martin, TV One News Host and Senior Analyst for the Tom Joyner Morning Show and featured panelists including series host, noted civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, series
creator and Executive Producer Rushion McDonald, Tia Smith, TV One Sr. Director of Original Programming
& Production, Linda Lipsen, CEO of American Association for Justice, Mike Fletcher, Senior Writer for ESPN's The Undefeated,
and Chantá Parker, Special Counsel for New Initiatives at the Innocence Project.
The series profiles the unbelievable true stories of individuals who were convicted of offenses they didn't commit, the journey each
endured to have their cases overturned, and the challenge to rebuild their lives. The screening featured the episode on Mark Schand, a wrongfully convicted man who was sentenced to life in prison for a drug-deal gone wrong that killed an innocent bystander
in Connecticut. Sharing his riveting account with Attorney Crump, guests watch his unbelievable story unfold, including his journey of overturning his case and the challenge to rebuild his life.
"These stories of redemption after going through horrific circumstances are certain to encourage viewers to face their own personal
challenges with renewed resolve," said Smith, who oversaw production for
TV One
"All you have to do is sit in the back of a court room and you'll see that justice is not equal in this country," said McDonald.
EVIDENCE OF INNOCENCE, however, with its stirring tales of perseverance, differs from any other true crime show. Even though
these persons received the blunt end of a bad deal," he maintains, "their stories are inspiring."
Following the screening, Martin led a dynamic conversation
with the panelists and a Q&A session. Crump, the series host, concluded the screening with a profound statement: "Hopefully you'll see this show tonight and go tell ten people you know
to watch it so you can say 'I'm living out the legacy of Martin Luther King. I'm a moral person and when I saw injustice I did something about it.' When you get a chance to speak truth to power, speak truth to power."
EVIDENCE OF INNOCENCE is produced
for TV One by Jupiter Entertainment. Rushion McDonald, Benjamin Crump, Todd Moss and Allison Wallach serve as Executive Producers. Executives in Charge of Production are Robert Twilley
