GIVES A RARE AND REVEALING LOOK AT LIFE IN IRAN

Arlington, Va. – September XX, 2018 – PBS Distribution announces the release of “FRONTLINE: OUR MAN IN TEHRAN” available on DVD November 6. As tensions rose between the United States and Iran over the summer, with threats of war and sanctions, this FRONTLINE presented documentary is an unusual and surprising portrait of life inside the Islamic Republic. New York Times reporter Thomas Erdbrink’s rare and fascinating account of traveling around the country, meeting people, and learning stories about their lives, hopes and fears is revealed in the program. It journeys into the private world of Iran, documenting the people and the country in a way never before seen.
FRONTLINE: OUR MAN IN TEHRAN” will be available on DVD ($24.99 SRP) November 6, 2018. The program has a run time of approximately 60 minutes. The program is currently available for download from iTunes and Amazon.

FRONTLINE: OUR MAN IN TEHRAN” presents Iranian society that will both surprise and intrigue viewers. It goes inside a 12-step AA meeting in a country where drinking alcohol is banned; follows a young woman who decides to challenge the compulsory Islamic headscarf law; presents the explosive popularity of Instagram among a new generation of Iranians; and introduces a volunteer soldier who has just come back from multiple tours in Iraq and Syria and talks about martyrdom with his wife and young children nearby.

Whether confronting the government, dogmatically defending it, or just trying to enjoy their lives, the Iranians in Erdbrink’s encounters are often very different than viewers in the United States might expect them to be.

OUR MAN IN TEHRAN” is a production of VPRO Television, The Netherlands, with Phanta Film for FRONTLINE in association with The New York Times. The writer and director is Roel van Broekhoven.
