CBSN ORIGINALS DIVES INTO THE DEBATE ON TROPHY HUNTING
“Trophy Hunting: Killing or Conservation?” Available Now Across CBS News’ Digital Properties
June 7, 2019 – Trophy hunter Tess Talley nearly broke the internet when photos she posted online of a giraffe she killed went viral. She was attacked on social media, ridiculed on late night television and even received death threats. None of these events have diminished her enthusiasm for a sport at the center of a highly controversial debate. In fact, in the latest CBSN Originals documentary “Trophy Hunting: Killing or Conservation?” she tells correspondent Adam Yamaguchi that the giraffe she killed “was delicious.”
Despite still receiving death threats for more than a year, Tally notes that her convictions on hunting have only grown stronger. Like many hunters, Tess argues the practice is not only acceptable, but vital to preserving wildlife and their habitats. However, critics like Humane Society CEO Kitty Block, dismiss that claim, saying that non-hunting sources of conservation funding are much more effective in preserving wildlife and bring in far more revenue.
The documentary is available now across all CBS News digital properties including CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 streaming network. The documentary will also stream on CBSN on Sunday, June 9 at 8:00 PM, ET.
