“CBS THIS MORNING” IS KICKING OFF “AMERICAN WONDERS,” A NEW SUMMER SERIES SHOWCASING LANDMARKS, FROM ICONIC TO UNUSUAL, THAT MAKE AMERICA WONDERFUL

CBS THIS MORNING today kicked off “American Wonders,” a new weekly summer series celebrating iconic landmarks as well as unexpected attractions across the United States. From majestic natural landscapes to man-made works of art, “American Wonders” will explore places around the country that showcase the best of America.
In the first installment, which aired today, CBS News correspondent Jamie Yuccas took viewers to the “Field of Light” – an illuminated landscape of more than 58,000 solar-powered fiber optic spheres spanning 15 acres in Paso Robles, Calif. The magical art installation comes alive as the sun goes down and captivates visitors who stroll through the landscape to experience the ethereal light-based sculptures. Additional locations to be highlighted include the street art of Downtown Atlanta, Sequoia National Park where some of the oldest living things on the planet exist, the giant metal art installations that make up the “Enchanted Highway” in North Dakota, and more.
Each weekday morning, Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, four News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News’ division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Diana Miller is the executive producer of CBS THIS MORNING.
