On the Monday, September 23rd edition of “Tamron Hall,” Tamron kicked off the show by breaking down the 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards with KABC’s Chief Entertainment Correspondent, George Pennacchio, who joined the show via Cyberhall. Tamron and George recapped the awards show, discussing everything from Billy Porter’s groundbreaking evening as he became the first openly gay black man to win an Emmy in the category of ‘Lead Actor in a Drama Series,’ to Michelle Williams’ profound call to action for pay equality during her acceptance speech. Also on today’s show, Tamron and host of ESPN’s ‘Outside the Lines,’ Ryan Smith, discussed recent headlines involving Antonio Brown as he faces sexual assault allegations. Additionally, Tamron spoke to psychiatrist Sue Barma, MD, FAPA, about the true cost of the terrifying viral videos that are making various host sites thousands of dollars.

Later, Tamron hosted a difficult conversation about American women who were robbed of their childhoods when their own families forced them into underage marriage. Fraidy Reiss (Westfield, NJ), who hasn’t had contact with her family in 13 years after ending her marriage, opened up about her tumultuous relationship with her parents saying, “The people who are supposed to be the ones helping you are the ones forcing you into it.” Also during the segment, Tamron introduced Sherry Johnson (Tallahassee, FL) and Ashley Duncan (Kansas City, MO), who shared their own heartbreaking stories of child marriage. Sherry, who was raped for the first time at the age of eight by the Bishop at her church, became pregnant at nine by the Deacon and was forced to marry a man twice her age at the young age of 11, stated “I believe I was just a sacrifice in the church.” Ashley, who became pregnant at age 15 and was forced by her aunt and uncle to marry the child’s father so he wouldn’t spend time in jail for statutory rape, recounted her courthouse wedding, saying that: “At the part I was supposed to say ‘I do,’ I said ‘I guess.’”

Tamron ended the show with the “Make Us Smile” segment, opening up the show to uplifting anecdotes from the audience.
