“Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.162 million, 350,000 and 262,000, respectively) by 79,000 Total Viewers, 84,000 Adults 25-54 and 36,000 Adults 18-49.
For the 2nd consecutive week, “Nightline” turned in week-to-week increases (1.175 million, 390,000 and 286,000, respectively, for w/o 10/14/19) across the board: Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%), turning in its largest overall audience and best news demo performance in more than 4 months – since weeks of 6/3/19 and 6/10/19, respectively

“Nightline’s” Total Viewer performance on Monday (1.341 million on 10/21/19) and Adults 25-54 delivery on Thursday (479,000 on 10/24/19) each stand as the ABC program’s strongest single-day telecast in each measure in over 4 months – since 6/13/19.

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the evening’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers (8.244 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.627 million) for the week of Oct. 21, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (7.703 million and 1.620 million, respectively) by 541,000 Total Viewers and 7,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, “World News Tonight” has won all 5 weeks of the season in Total Viewers and 4 of the 5 weeks in Adults 25-54.
“World News Tonight” more than doubled its Total Viewer victory over the NBC program year to year (+182%; vs. 192,000 for w/o 10/22/18).
For the 2nd week in a row, “World News Tonight” improved week to week in Total Viewers (+17,000 – 8.244 million vs. 8.227 million) and Adults 25-54 (+4,000 – 1.627 million vs. 1.623 million), posting its best news demo performance in nearly 5 months—since w/o 4/29/19.
“World News Tonight” slashed its Adults 18-49 margin with “NBC Nightly News” year to year nearly in half (-47% – 36,000 vs. 68,000).
Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.218 million) ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers at this point of the season for the 4th consecutive year. In fact, “World News Tonight” is increasing its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.475 million) from last season by 78% (743,000 vs. 418,000) to its largest season lead in 23 years—since the 1996-1997 season. “World News Tonight” leads “CBS Evening News” (5.188 million) by 3.030 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer season advantage in at least 28 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-1992 season).
In addition, “World News Tonight” is No. 1 for the season in Adults 25-54, leading NBC by 13,000 news demo viewers (1.599 million vs. 1.586 million) and taking the top spot for the first time at this point of a season in 5 years—since the 2014-15 season. “World News Tonight” is also slashing its season margin with NBC in Adults 18-49 (-76% – 26,000 vs. 110,000), seeing its closest gap in 12 years—since the 2007-2008 season.
“World News Tonight” is No. 1 in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 season to date for the first time in 12 years—since the 2007-08 season.
For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.244 million, 1.627 million and 1.103 million, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (5.264 million, 943,000 and 696,000, respectively) by 2.980 million Total Viewers, by 684,000 Adults 25-54 and 407,000 Adults 18-49.

“Nightline” posted gains on the previous week (1.096 million, 376,000 and 278,000, respectively, for w/o 10/7/19) across the board: Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%), drawing its largest overall audience in more than 4 months – since w/o 6/10/19.
Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+49,000 – 400,000 vs. 351,000) and Adults 18-49 (+43,000 – 292,000 vs. 249,000), delivering its best-ever Adults 18-49 advantage in the 5 seasons that the two shows have aired in their respective time slots—since the 2015-2016 season.

Opposite the start of the 2019 World Series on Fox at 8:00 p.m., ABC’s annual airing of “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” grew over its year-ago broadcast (on 10/18/18) by 11% in Total Viewers (5.0 million vs. 4.5 million) and by 9% with Adults 18-49 (1.2/6 vs. 1.1/5). “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” tied NBC’s “The Voice” as the No. 1 entertainment program in the 8:00 p.m. half-hour among Adults 18-49 (1.2/6) and beat CBS’ “NCIS” by 9% (1.1/5). “The Great Pumpkin” ranked as Tuesday’s No. 1 broadcast program among Kids 2-11 (1.3/8), tied with ABC’s “Toy Story of TERROR!.”

In addition, the ABC late-night program built week to week by 4% in Adults 18-49 (434,000 vs. 417,000) to post its 2nd-best performance this season.

For the 2nd week in a row, “The View” improved on the previous week (w/o 9/30/19) in Women 25-54 (+3%-418,000 vs. 405,000) and Women 18-49 (+4%-303,000 vs. 291,000). In fact, “The View” delivered its best Women 18-49 performance since March and strongest Women 25-54 number since April—since weeks of 3/18/19 and 4/8/19, respectively.
Season to date, amongst all network and syndicated daytime talk shows and news programs (21 Total), “The View” (2.620 million) ranks No. 3, trailing only “Dr. Phil” (3.317 million) and “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (2.640 million), while leading No. 4 “Ellen” (2.607 million). In fact, “The View” is leading “Ellen” in Total Viewers for the first time at this point of the season in 7 years—since the 2012-13 season.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.619 million Total Viewers, 405,000 Women 25-54 and 291,000 Women 18-49, during the week of Sept. 30, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.
For the 2nd week in a row, “The View” improved on the previous week (w/o 9/23/19) in Total Viewers (+5% – 2.619 million vs. 2.484 million), Women 25-54 (+2% – 405,000 vs. 398,000) and Women 18-49 (+4% – 291,000 vs. 281,000). In fact, “The View” turned in its most-watched week in over 5 months and strongest Women 18-49 performance in 6 months – since weeks of 4/22/19 and 3/25/19, respectively.
On Monday (9/30/19), “The View” saw its best single-telecast performances in Total Viewers (2.810 million) in 5 months and in Women 18-49 (343,000) in 6 months – since 4/26/19 and 3/20/19, respectively. In addition, on Thursday (10/3/19), “The View” delivered its strongest single-day telecast number in Women 25-54 (465,000) in 3 months – since 6/6/19.
Season to date, amongst all network and syndicated daytime talk shows and news programs (24 Total), “The View” (2.600 million) ranks No. 4, trailing only “Dr. Phil” (3.295 million), “Ellen” (2.645 million) and “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (2.608 million).

‘World News Tonight’ Is the Only Evening Newscast to Grow Across the Board From Year-Ago Week
ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the evening’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers (8.242 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.599 million) for the week of Sept. 30, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” led “NBC Nightly News” (7.409 million and 1.556 million, respectively) by 833,000 Total Viewers and by 43,000 Adults 25-54. “World News Tonight” increased its Total Viewer winning advantage over the NBC program both week to week (+22%; vs. 682,000 on w/o 9/23/19) and year to year (+46%; vs. 572,000 for w/o 10/1/18).
“World News Tonight” stood as the only evening newscast to post increases year to year (w/o 10/1/18) in any demo: Total Viewer (+94,000/+1% – 8.242 million vs. 8.148 million), Adults 25-54 (+37,000/+2% – 1.599 million vs. 1.562 million) and Adults 18-49 (+35,000/+3% – 1.066 million vs. 1.031 million).
“World News Tonight” improved on the previous week (w/o 9/23/19) in Total Viewers (+281,000/+4% – 8.242 million vs. 7.961 million) and Adults 25-54 (+77,000/+5% – 1.599 million vs. 1.522 million), posting its strongest news demo performance in over 3 months – since w/o 6/3/19.
Two weeks into the season, “World News Tonight” (8.147 million) ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers at this point of the season for the 4th consecutive year. In fact, “World News Tonight” is increasing its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.392 million) from last season by 28% (755,000 vs. 589,000) to its largest season lead in 24 years – since the 1995-1996 season. “World News Tonight” leads CBS Evening News” (5.148 million) by 2.999 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer advantage in at least 28 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-1992 season).

For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.242 million, 1.599 million and 1.066 million, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (5.203 million, 941,000 and 663,000, respectively) by 3.039 million Total Viewers, by 658,000 Adults 25-54 and 403,000 Adults 18-49.

From 8:00-9:00 p.m. opposite Fox’s “The Masked Singer,” ABC’s “The Goldbergs” and “Schooled” both held 100% of their week-earlier season premieres in Adults 18-49 (1.0/5 and 0.8/4, respectively).
At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Modern Family” moved up to rank No. 1 in its half-houramong Adults 18-49 (1.1/5-tie), beating Fox’s “The Masked Singer”-led debut of “Almost Family” by 22% (0.9/4). “Modern Family” grew over its prior week premiere by 5% in Total Viewers (4.3 million vs. 4.1 million) and retained 100% among Adults 18-49 (1.1/5). The ABC comedy ranked as Wednesday’s No. 1 scripted show of the night with Adults 18-49 (tied with NBC’s “Chicago Fire”).
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC’s “Single Parents” improved over its week-earlier season opener in both Total Viewers (+4% – 2.9 million vs. 2.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (+14% – 0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3). In fact, the sophomore ABC sitcom matched its highest-rated telecast since December 2018 in Adults 18-49 – since 12/12/18. “Single Parents” topped “Almost Family” in the half-hour by 14% with Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3).
In the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Stumptown” held 100% of its prior week debut in Adults 18-49 (0.7/4) and outdelivered CBS’ “S.W.A.T.” premiere by 17% (0.6/3) to rank No. 2 in the hour, while narrowing the gap with NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” (1.0/5) to 3-tenths of a rating point versus 4-tenths the prior week.
