“CBS THIS MORNING” LAUNCHES “THE PRICE YOU PAY” SERIES WITH CO-HOST TONY DOKOUPIL

CBS THIS MORNING is launching a new series today with co-host Tony Dokoupil titled “The Price You Pay,” which looks at why costs are surging for many common products or services.
Put simply, this is a series about who’s getting rich while more Americans fall behind. It’s a search for the root cause of rising prices in everything from college tuition to a cold beer after work,” Dokoupil said. “We’re going to show people that behind every number on every bill, there’s a story – and sometimes the only way to know if a price is fair is to tell it.”
In the first installment of “The Price You Pay,” airing today, Dokoupil reports on the cost of college. While the goals of higher education have remained the same for decades, the cost of public college has skyrocketed ten-fold since 1965. Why is that? Dokoupil interviews one of the highest paid college presidents in America, Renu Khator of the University of Houston, to find out.
“‘The Price You Pay’ series allows Tony to showcase his incredible journalism off the anchor desk and give our viewers the consumer news that affects us all,” executive producer Diana Miller said.
Each weekday morning, Gayle King, Anthony Mason, and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, five News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Diana Miller is the executive producer of CBS THIS MORNING.
