Critically acclaimed by the media, The Guardian called the film“unignorable,” and the Daily Telegraph calls it “soul-shaking.” The documentary chronicles Sama’s first year of life: the last year of the battle for the city, and a time of almost unimaginable darkness. Hospitals are bombed, Aleppo is besieged by the Assad regime, and the remaining civilians witness attacks by chlorine gas, cluster and barrel bombs, and massacres of women and children. Amid the horror, baby Sama gives Waad the strength to endure: fighting for her dream of a free Syria; filming, directing and producing For Sama; and offering a lens into the country’s war through her eyes.

From the acclaimed performance series Live From Lincoln Center this program follows the musicians on a contemporary odyssey that culminates in the cosmopolitan hub of Athens, where they perform at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Their travels also take them to the remote hills of Pelion, where Jason reputedly set sail with the Argonauts, and where additional concerts are performed in the picturesque and intimate spaces of the 18th-century Church of Taxiarchon in Milies; the Church of St. Constantine and Helen, in Volos; and the magnificent amphitheater tucked away in the heart of the bustling town of Larissa. The journey ends with a visit to Delphi, the sacred precinct of Apollo, the god of music, poetry, light, and healing. The New York Times is calling “ODYSSEY” “a rock ‘n roll tour documentary for the chamber music crowd.” Major support for “ODYSSEY” was provided by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Funding for Live From Lincoln Center was provided by the Family of Robert Wood Johnson III, the Robert and Renée Belfer Family Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
