BBC AMERICA continues expansion of its iconic nature offering with the launch of
Wonderstruck on Saturday, November 2nd. The micro-net launches with a special presentation of the upcoming landmark series “Seven Worlds, One Planet”
featuring legendary narrator and climate activist Sir David Attenborough, a score from Hans Zimmer’s Bleeding Fingers, and the Emmy®-winning creative team behind the
Planet Earth franchise.
On
Saturday, November 9th, the all-new series “Blue Planet Now” premieres as a follow-up to the critically-acclaimed “Blue Planet II,” exploring the health of our oceans and marine life across the globe.
Watching nature programming has been shown to heighten clarity, concentration and creativity, increase learning and productivity, and promote a sense of deep relaxation that provides
relief from stress, anxiety and mental fatigue. Seeing nature on-screen from the cosmic to the microscopic alters one’s entire sense of scale, making us feel small comparatively, just one piece of something bigger, more magnificent and profound. Ultimately,
because of this, people feel more connected after watching nature shows – to the planet, to each other and to other living things.
All these remarkable findings, the result of a study conducted by Kresnicka Research & Insights in partnership with BBC
AMERICA and BBC Studios, led BBC AMERICA to develop Wonderstruck.
Episode 1
Whale Sanctuary” – Premieres Saturday, November 9 at 9pm/8c
In Mexico, Chris pairs up with scientists at the world’s biggest whale nursery to witness the arrival of gray whale mothers
and their babies. Steve drops anchor in the Bahamas to take the plunge with some enormous ocean predators including Tigersharks. And on the fragile Great Barrier Reef, Liz sets up base at a research station to meet the colorful characters that
live on the reef and follows the trials and tribulations of newborn turtles living on the island.

“Shark Paradise” – Premieres Saturday, November 16 at 9pm/8c
As the sun rises over the Great Barrier Reef, Liz joins scientists to find out how temperature increases are impacting the
reef, and how plastic is putting the future of the planet’s turtles at risk. In a dramatic maneuver to capture coral spawning, we follow an ambitious attempt to restore the reef through IVF transplants. Continuing his journey down the Baja Peninsula in Mexico,
Chris is on a quest for ocean giants, and out in the Pacific, the crew on board an expedition research vessel explore the mysterious world of the deep ocean to discover how our actions may be impacting the deepest, darkest, depths.
“Wonders of the Reef” – Premieres Saturday, November 23 at 9pm/8c
Steve, Chris and Liz join scientists to further understand the importance of migrations, long and short, and understand
how human demands on the oceans have made an impact on these wild journeys. On the Great Barrier Reef, Liz takes to the water to get a closer look at the great ocean wanderer, the green sea turtle. In the Bahamas, Steve finds himself surrounded by stingrays
as a team attempts to ultrasound pregnant females. And over in Mexico’s Sea of Cortez, Chris takes to the sky to find the largest ocean migrant of them all, the blue whale.
“Hammerheads and Humpbacks” – Premieres Saturday, November 30 at 9pm/8c
Steve, Chris and Liz look to understand what the future holds for all life within our blue planet, and the extraordinary
efforts scientists are making to protect our seas. In Mexico, Chris searches for the iconic humpback whale and uses an innovative device to listen in on their underwater world. As night turns to day, we join Liz in Australia to witness a spectacular natural
wonder as fluorescent corals light up the Great Barrier Reef. Over in the Bahamas, Steve prepares to dive with one of the most threatened and dramatic of all sharks, the great hammerhead. And on the research vessel in the Pacific, the expedition vessel reports
back the
latest images from the deep-sea sub to reveal more about the hidden life of the deep.
