On Tuesday’s October 22nd edition of “Tamron Hall,” world-renowned producer, director, actor, screenwriter, playwright, author, songwriter, entrepreneur and philanthropist
Tyler Perry joined Tamron to speak about his latest venture, the history-making
Tyler Perry Studios that recently opened in Atlanta, GA, making Perry the first African American to own a major film studio.
Perry discussed his struggles with abuse as a child, which led him to consider suicide (Watch clip
HERE) and also shared how he used his vivid imagination and creativity
to cope with the hardships he experienced while growing up. On encouraging others going through difficult times he said:
“I remember being suicidal, wanting to die, not wanting to live. I would have missed the best part of my life because it was tough. So I tell people hold on, just hold onto it because the other side of it is so much better.”
Tamron praised Perry’s generosity and dedication to helping others exemplified by decision to support the Sheppard family, who fell on hard times and were evicted from their
home after their half-brother was shot and killed. While Perry had never met Tonia and her three daughters, Tai, Rainn and Brooke, he not only offered to pay their rent for two years allowing them to move out of the shelter, but he also redecorated their new
apartment and is now paying the girls’ school tuition.
Tamron surprised Perry by bringing the Sheppard family to the stage, giving them the opportunity to meet for the first time (Watch clip
HERE). On why Perry connected so deeply to their story, he said:
“I wanted to help because I saw you and I saw in your eyes, I still see it in your eyes, the pain of it all, the struggle of it all, but also I saw the love and the hope. You carry such a light and I saw your girls and I thought ‘oh my god, what can I do?’”
Also on today’s show, country star and actress
Jana Kramer and husband Mike Caussin discussed how their marriage survived sex addiction and infidelity. Jana and Mike opened up about going to rehab for his sex addiction, as well as their decision to control the narrative by speaking out publicly
about their marriage once they realized that a close friend had sold the details of their private struggles to the press. Jana and Mike also addressed the pain caused by the topless photo that Jana discovered on her husband’s Apple Watch earlier this month
(Watch clip HERE).
Coming from a broken family herself, Jana shared that her motivation to repair her relationship was to keep her family together for the sake of her daughter. On why Jana
chose to work on her marriage instead of ending it: “I wanted to tell her that I did everything I could to stick it out.”
