48 HOURS will feature startling evidence that helped convict Colorado man Patrick Frazee for the murder of his fiancée in “Justice for Kelsey Berreth” to be broadcast Saturday, Nov. 23 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Viewers will see just-released critical video and photos obtained by 48 HOURS that investigators gathered in building a case against Frazee for killing Berreth, who vanished on Thanksgiving Day 2018 and has never been seen – or heard from – since.
The trial had a star witness, Frazee’s secret girlfriend, Krystal Lee, who is seen on video obtained by 48 HOURS walking prosecutors through the crime scene at Berreth’s house. She details for police how she says she cleaned up the crime scene after Frazee killed Berreth and what she says he did with her body and evidence afterward.
Correspondent Nikki Battiste and 48 HOURS take viewers inside the investigation and piece together the twisted love triangle that prosecutors say led to the death of the 29-year-old mother. It’s a story that gripped the country when word surfaced that the engaged mother of a young daughter vanished and again this week as Frazee’s trial concluded. It’s a case that exposed a secret relationship, problems at home simmering beneath the surface and wild stories that would lead to a huge break in the case. Berreth’s body has never been found.
At the heart of the investigation was Lee, who told investigators Frazee asked her to kill his fiancée with three different plots – though she couldn’t go through with it. One of those attempts, Lee told investigators, was a scheme to get Berreth to drink a poisoned caramel macchiato from Starbucks. Prosecutors maintain Frazee ultimately murdered Berreth himself. According to Lee, Frazee told her he killed Berreth with a baseball bat.
In a video obtained by 48 HOURS, Lee, wearing a police jacket and cap, is seen taking police through Berreth’s home. She points out places that had blood spatter when she arrived there. She says she cleaned the place top to bottom, but also claims to have left blood behind in the hope police would find it and then connect Frazee to Berreth’s death. She also is seen on police video at Frazee’s ranch, where she says Frazee took Berreth’s body and where he burned her remains and other evidence, including their daughter’s toys and Berreth’s blood-stained Bible.
Frazee was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, plus 156 years.
In exchange for her testimony, Lee faces a maximum of up to three years in prison for evidence tampering.
