CBSN ORIGINALS EXPLORES HOW PORN IS SHIFTING A GENERATION’S RELATIONSHIP WITH SEX

New Documentary available now across CBS News’ Digital Properties
Nov. 15, 2019 - With the growth of the internet, free porn has become easier to access for a generation of children and teens. Though porn is intended for viewers 18 and older, on average children are first exposed to porn at just 11 years-old, an age, when doctors say, their brains can literally be rewired to believe that sex in the real world is supposed to be like some of the agressive behavior they see in online porn.
The newest CBSN Originals documentary, “Porn,” examines the ways in which porn influences a person’s relationship with sex. The film features testimonies from teenagers who engaged with porn at an early age as well as interviews with porn actors and directors on their perceptions of the industry. Jess Adler, who teaches a porn literacy class to high schoolers, states, “there is importance with our young people applying a critical lens to any of the media, whether it’s porn or whether it’s a TV show, so that they learn that what’s on the screen isn’t the full truth.” Additionally, Elle Stanger, stripper, sexuality educator, and ethical porn creator notes, “a lot of people are becoming comfortable with their queer identities, so seeing two women having sex...could really help a person to realize their own orientation.”
Porn” is the fourth episode in a new six-part CBSN Originals series titled “Speaking Frankly,” which brings viewers into conversations on topics that are often seen as impolite or too controversial to fully discuss, including non-monogamous relationships, child marriage in America, how pornography is warping perspectives on sex and relationships, and the unprecedented challenges of raising children in a rapidly changing world.
The documentary is available now across all CBS News digital properties including CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 streaming network. The documentary will also stream on CBSN on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:00 PM ET.
CBSN launched its documentary series, CBSN Originals, in January 2016, adding a new dimension to the network with immersive reports that take a deep dive into some of the key issues driving national and global conversations. To date, CBSN has streamed 46 Originals on a range of topics including the mass migration from Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, social media’s role in the violence against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar, gender identity, and the dangerous journey to America through the Darien Gap, among others.
