Airing from 11:30 p.m.–12:33 a.m., the first late-night segment of ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” attracted 17.8 million Total Viewers and averaged a 5.2 rating among Adults 18–49. ABC’s annual New Year’s Eve special drew in 21.0 million viewers and scored a 6.1 Adult 18-49 rating at midnight.
· ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve – Part 1” ranked as the No. 1 entertainment program in late-night on New Year’s Eve, dominating the combined deliveries of its broadcast competitors by 4.4 million Total Viewers (17.8 million vs. 13.4 million for NBC’s “New Year’s Eve – Late” and Fox’s “Steve Harvey Live from Times Square”) and by 33% with Adults 18-49 (5.2 rating vs. 3.9 rating for NBC and Fox combined).
Despite its later post-1:00 a.m. time period, the second late-night segment of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” drew an average audience of 5.7 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating in Adults 18–49.

In fact, the final half-hour of “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” tied the “Survivor” finale for No. 2 in the slot among Adults 18-49 (1.2/6), behind only “The Masked Singer” finale.
Airing the week before Christmas, “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” drew ABC’s largest audience to the 90-minute time slot during the month of December in 3 years – since 12/14/16. In fact, the Sony-produced, star-studded restaging by Jimmy Kimmel of the two Norman Lear comedies scored ABC’s biggest audience in the time period the Wednesday before Christmas in 10 years – since 12/23/09.

“Nightline” narrowed its margins year to year with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Total Viewers (-5% – 63,000 vs. 66,000), Adults 25-54 (-44% – 45,000 vs. 80,000) and Adults 18-49 (-74% – 12,000 vs. 47,000).
Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+27,000 – 392,000 vs. 365,000) and Adults 18-49 (+14,000 – 280,000 vs. 266,000).
In addition, “Nightline” is cutting its margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” by double digits for the 3rd season in a row in both Adults 25-54 (-38% – 58,000 vs. 94,000) and Adults 18-49 (-42% – 42,000 vs. 73,000) to its closest-ever performances in both key adult measures in the 6 seasons the two shows have aired in their respective time slots—since the 2014-2015 season.

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the evening’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers (8.631 million) for the week of Dec. 9, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (7.968 million) by 663,000, more than doubling its lead year to year (+114%; vs. 310,000). “World News Tonight” has won all 12 weeks of the season and the last 54 weeks overall.
On Monday (12/9/19), with Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas’ exclusive interview with FBI Director Christopher Wray, “World News Tonight” ranked No. 1 across the board: Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49.
Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.614 million) ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers at this point of the season for the 4th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. In fact, “World News Tonight” is more than doubling its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.909 million) from last season (+153% – 705,000 vs. 279,000) to its largest season lead in 24 years—since the 1995-1996 season. “World News Tonight” is beating “CBS Evening News” (5.534 million) by 3.080 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer season advantage in at least 28 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in the 1991-1992 season).
“World News Tonight” is slashing its season margins with NBC in both Adults 25-54 (-91% – 8,000 vs. 86,000) and Adults 18-49 (-53% – 42,000 vs. 89,000), seeing its closest Adults 18-49 gap in 23 years—since the 1996-1997 season.
For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.631 million, 1.587 million and 1.071 million, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (5.800 million, 1.065 million and 752,000, respectively) by 2.831 million Total Viewers, 522,000 Adults 25-54 and 319,000 Adults 18-49.

On its last original episode of the year, ABC’s “Modern Family” grew over the prior week by 5% in Total Viewers (6.0 million vs. 5.7 million) to deliver its most-watched telecast in 10 weeks – since 10/2/19. “Modern Family” ranked No. 1 in the 9:00 p.m. half hour among Adults 18-49 (1.5/8), beating Fox’s “Almost Family” (boosted by “The Masked Singer”) by 67% (0.9/4) and NBC’s “Making It” (boosted by “The Voice”) by 114% (0.7/4).
“Single Parents” (9:31-10:00 p.m. – 3.8 million and 0.9/5 in AD18-49):
ABC’s “Single Parents” built week to week by 9% in Total Viewers (3.8 million vs. 3.5 million) to score its largest audience of the season on its final original telecast of 2019. The ABC comedy ran neck and neck for No. 1 in the 9:30 p.m. time slot with CBS’ “SEAL Team” among Adults 18-49 (0.9/5 vs. 1.0/5), while dominating Fox’s “Almost Family” (0.6/3) and NBC’s “Making It” (0.6/3) by 50% each.

For the 2nd week in a row, “The Rookie” emerged as Sunday’s No. 1 entertainment program in L+3 with Adults 18-49 (1.2/6), topping all three NFL-boosted CBS dramas.
On its last original of the year, “The Rookie” posted its largest playback increases of the season in Total Viewers (+3.47 million viewers) and Adults 18-49 (+0.6 rating points-tie) from L+SD to L+3. ABC’s “The Rookie” easily ranked as Sunday’s No. 1 gainer in TV playback in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

“Nightline” delivered week-to-week increases (1.036 million, 336,000 and 229,000, respectively, for w/o 11/25/19) in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+16%).
Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+29,000 – 395,000 vs. 366,000) and Adults 18-49 (+16,000 – 283,000 vs. 267,000).

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the evening’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers (9.027 million) for the week of Dec. 2, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (8.244 million) by 783,000, nearly quadrupling its lead week to week (+297%; vs 197,000) and more than doubling its advantage year to year (+165%; vs. 295,000). Further, “World News Tonight” has won all 11 weeks of the season and the last 54 weeks overall.
On Monday (12/2/19), “World News Tonight” turned in its most-watched telecast (9.602 million) in 9 months – since 3/4/19.
“World News Tonight” improved on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+161,000/+2% – 9.027 million vs. 8.866 million), standing as the only evening newscast to build on its overall audience year to year.
“World News Tonight” slashed its margins from the previous week with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half in both Adults 25-54 (-88% – 6,000 vs. 52,000) and Adults 18-49 (-62% – 48,000 vs. 126,000).
“World News Tonight” narrowed its gaps from the previous week with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits in Adults 25-54 (-91% – 6,000 vs. 64,000) and Adults 18-49 (-19% – 48,000 vs. 59,000).
Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.609 million) ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers at this point of the season for the 4th consecutive year. In fact, “World News Tonight” is more than doubling its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.898 million) from last season (+159% – 711,000 vs. 274,000) to its largest season lead in 24 years – since the 1995-1996 season. “World News Tonight” leads “CBS Evening News” (5.506 million) by 3.103 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer season advantage in at least 28 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in the 1991-1992 season).
“World News Tonight” is running neck and neck with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 as only 1,000 news demo viewers separate the two programs (1.680 million vs. 1.681 million). “World News Tonight” is also slashing its season margin with NBC in Adults 18-49 (-60% – 38,000 vs. 94,000), seeing its closest gap in 23 years—since the 1996-1997 season.
For the week, “World News Tonight” (9.027 million, 1.742 million and 1.186 million, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (5.850 million, 1.114 million and 771,000, respectively) by 3.177 million Total Viewers, 628,000 Adults 25-54 and 415,000 Adults 18-49.

on Its Last Original Telecast of the Year
“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 9.9 million and 1.7/8 in AD18-49):
On its last original episode of the year, ABC’s “The Good Doctor” grew over the prior week by 6% in Adults 18-49 (1.7/8 vs. 1.6/8) to score its highest-rated telecast in 10 weeks since its season opener (and its 2nd-best rating this season) – since 9/23/19. In addition, “The Good Doctor” built week to week by 5% in Total Viewers (9.9 million vs. 9.4 million) to deliver its most-watched telecast in 9 weeks – since 9/30/19.
“The Good Doctor” emerged as Monday’s No. 1 series for the 2nd straight week in Total Viewers in L+3 (9.9 million) and, after ranking No. 4 in L+SD, moved up to rank as the night’s No. 2 series in Adults 18-49 (1.7/8).
With gains of +3.80 million viewers and +0.8 rating points from L+SD to L+3, “The Good Doctor” ranked as Monday’s No. 1 gainer in TV playback in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. In fact, “The Good Doctor” matched its season premiere as its biggest L+3 lift this season among Adults 18-49 (+0.8 rating points).

ABC’s “20/20” outperformed NBC’s “Dateline Classic-Fri” in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+28% – 3.7 million vs. 2.9 million), Adults 18-49 (+20% – 0.6/3 vs. 0.5/3) and Adults 25-54 (+29% – 0.9/4 vs. 0.7/3). ABC’s “20/20” posted double-digit increases week to week (11/22/19) across the board: Total Viewers (+19% – 3.7 million vs. 3.1 million), Adults 18-49 (+20% – 0.6/3 vs. 0.5/3) and Adults 25-54 (+13% – 0.9/4 vs. 0.8/3). In fact, “20/20” saw its most-watched telecast in over 7 months – since 4/5/19.
In addition, “20/20” improved on the year-ago telecast (11/30/18) in Total Viewers (+19% – 3.7 million vs. 3.1 million) and Adults 25-54 (+13% – 0.9/4 vs. 0.8/3).
Season to date, “20/20” is improving from the same point last year in Total Viewers (+1% – 3.90 million vs. 3.85 million) and Adults 25-54 (+10% – 1.1/4 vs. 1.0/4), drawing its largest overall audience and matching its strongest news demo performance in 3 years – since the 2016-2017 season.
In addition, “20/20” stands as the only newsmagazine posting increases in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54, including CBS’ “60 Minutes” and “48 Hours” and NBC’s “Dateline.”
“20/20” featured a new interview with Kimberly Mays, 30 years after she discovered she was switched at birth.

Airing on the Friday after Thanksgiving, ABC’s “American Housewife” ranked as the night’s No. 1 show in Adults 18-49 (0.9/5), leading runners-up Fox’s “WWE Friday Night Smackdown” (0.8/4) and CBS’ “Frosty the Snowman” special (0.8/4) by 13% each. After placing behind CBS’ holiday specials and Fox’s “WWE Smackdown” in L+SD, “American Housewife” moved ahead to rank as the night’s highest-rated show in L+3 with Adults 18-49.

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” finished as the No. 1 evening newscast in Total Viewers (9.259 million) for the week of Nov. 25, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” beat “NBC Nightly News” (9.062 million) by 197,000, winning all 10 weeks of the season and the last 53 weeks overall.
“World News Tonight” posted week-to-week increases across the board: Total Viewers (+462,000/+5% – 9.259 million vs. 8.797 million), Adults 25-54 (+84,000/+5% – 1.792 million vs. 1.708 million) and Adults 18-49 (+41,000/+4% – 1.198 million vs. 1.157 million), seeing its most-watched week since March – since w/o 3/4/19.
On Tuesday (11/26/19), “World News Tonight” delivered its most-watched telecast (9.459 million) in nearly 9 months – since 3/7/19.
“World News Tonight” improved on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+113,000/+1% – 9.259 million vs. 9.146 million).
“World News Tonight” cut its Adults 25-54 margin with “NBC Nightly News” year to year by 33% (52,000 vs. 78,000).
Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.569 million) ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers at this point of the season for the 4th consecutive year. In fact, “World News Tonight” is more than doubling its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.857 million) from last season (+163% – 712,000 vs. 271,000) to its largest season lead in 24 years—since the 1995-1996 season. “World News Tonight” leads “CBS Evening News” (5.468 million) by 3.101 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer season advantage in at least 28 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in the 1991-1992 season).

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” won the November 2019 sweep in both Total Viewers (8.945 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.754 million) for the first time in 23 years (since November 1996), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (8.161 million and 1.748 million, respectively) by 784,000 Total Viewers and 6,000 Adults 25-54. In fact, “World News Tonight” saw its largest overall viewer lead over ”Nightly News” during the month in 24 years – since November 1995. “World News Tonight” won the month in overall viewers for the 4th year in a row and posted its 13th consecutive sweeps victory overall – both since November 2016.
During the November Sweep, anchor David Muir had an exclusive report from the Eastern Mediterranean on 11/4/19 with unprecedented access on board the USS Florida submarine amid rising tensions in the region, and he anchored “World News Tonight” from Washington, D.C., on 11/12/19 and 11/13/19 to cover the first public impeachment inquiry hearings for President Donald Trump. The 11/4/19 and 11/12/19 broadcasts delivered the most-watched single evening newscasts of any network in the past 7 months – since 4/15/19, including all “NBC Nightly News” and “CBS Evening News” telecasts.
In addition, the ABC evening newscast took the top spot in Adults 25-54 in November for the first time in 5 years, while winning in the key adult news demo for the 4th sweep in a row – since November 2014 and February 2019, respectively.
