MICHAEL GEORGE JOINS CBS NEWSPATH AS A NEW YORK-BASED CORRESPONDENT
Michael George is joining CBS Newspath as a New York-based correspondent, it was announced today. George will provide original reporting for the Network’s 24-hour newsgathering service for CBS affiliates and broadcasters around the globe.
“CBS News is the gold standard for original reporting and investigative journalism. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to the important work this team does every day,” George said.
An Emmy Award-winning reporter, George joins CBS News after six years of appearing on WNBC-TV New York’s weekday newscasts. While at WNBC, George received two New York Emmys for coverage of the mass shooting at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. Additionally, George reported on many of New York’s most important news stories, including Pope Francis's historic 2015 visit, the Black Lives Matter protests and the 2016 presidential election. During the 2016 election, George covered several key events including the presidential debate at Hofstra University and election night at President-Elect Trump’s New York headquarters.
Prior to WNBC, George was an investigative reporter with WFTS-TV in Tampa, Fla., where he received two Suncoast Emmy Awards for investigative and education reporting. Additionally, George reported for WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee where he covered a number of national stories, including President Gerald Ford’s funeral and the 2012 Olympic bid. He began his career as a political reporter with KFYR-TV in Bismarck, N.D.
Born in Palm Springs, Calif., and a member of the Asian American Journalists Association, George graduated from the University of Southern California where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science. He currently resides in Queens, N.Y.
