NETFLIX ACQUIRES COMING-OF-AGE FAMILY FILM GO KARTS FROM AQUTE MEDIA


  • Netflix has acquired the global rights to Owen Trevor’s family film Go Karts, excluding Australia and New Zealand, where Roadshow Films will release the film theatrically on January 16, 2020 under the title GO!
  • Director: Owen Trevor (Top Gear)
  • Screenwriter: Steve Worland (Paper Planes)
    • Worland has also released a novelization of the film in Australia, and will release it in the U.S in the coming months. 
  • Producers: Jamie Hilton and Sonia Borella of Australia-based See Pictures 
  • Executive Producers: Joel Pearlman, Michael Pontin, Josh Pomeranz, Dave Hansen, and Berry Meyerowitz & Jeff Sackman of Canadian-based Aqute Media 
  • Financiers: Principal production and development funding from Screen Australia in association with Screenwest and Lotterywest; financed with support from the Government of Western Australia Royalties for Regions Program, Spectrum Films, Create NSW, Fulcrum Media Finance, and Media Super 
  • Cast: William Lodder, Richard Roxburgh, Anastasia Bampos, Darius Amarfio-Jefferson, Frances O'Connor, Dan Wyllie, Cooper van Grootel, Damian de Montemas
  • Logline: When his mother moves them to a new town, 15-year-old Jack discovers go kart racing and dedicates himself to the sport. With the support of an old race-car driver with a secret past, and his new best friends, Jack must learn to control his recklessness to win the national title.
  • The film joins Netflix’s growing slate of live action family films featuring kids and teens, which includes the 2019 comedy Tall Girl, directed by Nzingha Stewart (Grey’s Anatomy, A Million Little Things) and produced by Wonderland as well as 2020 films Feel the Beat, directed by Elissa Down (The Honor List) and starring Sofia Carson; The Main Event directed by Jay Karas (Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife, Break Point) and produced in partnership with WWE Studios; The Sleepover directed by Trish Sie (Pitch Perfect, Step Up All In); A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting directed by Rachel Talalay (Dr. Who, Sherlock, Tank Girl) and Finding Ohana directed by Jude Weng (Young Sheldon, The Good Place).
